Personally, core values of an individual are one that defines the individual’s actions and words. His/her whole life is largely built on these core values. And these values differ from person to person as these values are inherited from the personal experiences and the environment on which an individual is raised up. Hence there is no one right or wrong value the one that may sound right to one person might not necessarily sound correct to the other. Below are the some of the personal values that I consider the principles in my life is built upon.
I really appreciate things that are real and authentic. My actions and the things I say should depict the person I am. I believe that it is important for every person to learn and grow as an individual but at the same time I appreciate the fact that every human is unique in nature and the uniqueness brings the best in them. Thus, one should always act and say things that feel true to him rather not to please the society. In today's world we face a lot of pressure in the outside world be it the college, school, work place and thus they influence us in our thought process and our actions thus in an indirect way influence your decisions. Hence it is important to find what you want to do and not get carried away with the external factors.
I personally believe that I get to live this life only for once. And over time I understood that it’s the memories and the fun moments that you've come across in life that comes with you through out. It is important to be professionally successful but how many times we end up saying about a professional achievement when someone asks for your best memory. I opt to take fun in my life important and make sure whatever I end up doing in life it should always have a fun element to it and I should enjoy doing the work.
I consider love to be one of the most important personal value. Love in this context would mean a person's passion and dedication to make things better for his fellow human race. It's because of the love and respect that I have for our fellow humans and the environment that makes me a better person. As a human I want to be loved by my family and friends and I also want to love others the same way they do. I believe every human has a part to play in the development or destruction of the world we live in. If we really love the world and care for others, we can oversee the monetary values involved in a lot of immoral acts.
I always want to be man of words, one who makes sure he delivers what he promises. Any times my words don't match my actions I want to know about it so that I can learn from the mistakes that I've done to grow and move forward. I learnt it from my partner at my previous employment that nothing matters more than a person's reputation. It takes a long time to build a reputation of oneself amongst the industry/organization he/she works but it takes few seconds for one to break reputation that he/she has built.
Irrespective of an individual’s social status or the position he/she is placed in an organization everyone should to be treated with respect and dignity. It’s a value that I’ve been taught by my parents from a very young age. To give a small example when we visit a shopping mall we are sometime misidentified as employees working in the store by fellow customers and both the parties when they realize that the identified person is a customer, we feel awkward. Let’s consider another example if the misidentified person was in a hospital and he was misidentified as a doctor whereas he was a patient would he feel awkward or does he feel glad that an anonymous person has identified him as a doctor. My argument here is not that we are treating a shopping mall employee and the doctor different. But the ideology that is deep rooted in everyone must be changed every fellow human has to be respected the same way you want to be respected by others.
I consider all the personal values that I’ve mentioned above as my core values and I believe my actions reflect the same. And as an organizational leader I would like to implement the above values in my organization and in the work culture. I can relate fun to the work life balance in a work environment and as an organizational leader I would make sure that the employees who work for my organization have a life outside of work. Because I very firmly believe that a person could be far more efficient when he/she is happy in his/her personal life.
As an organizational leader I want my employees and the company to follow the values that the organization identifies. Irrespective of whatever the stakes are or the monetary benefits the company may get it is always important for the company to follow the values that it has identified for itself. As an organizational leader I would believe that any organization built in a toxic environment cannot sustain. And for these reasons it is important for the organization to keep its authenticity. As already mentioned as a leader I should be able to love the organization and love my customers. I should be able to give at most dedication to the work and that to me is only possible when we love the stakeholders in the process.
It is very important that has a leader I safeguard the reputation of my company. Anything that crosses the line of the rules of the operations of business then the company should look in to it. Also, all employees in my organization irrespective of any demographic or economic factors should be given equal importance and respect. Human in general even if a low-income employee would love to be respected and identified and most of them consider this value to be more significant than the economic benefits that they might receive.
As an organizational leader it is important that the values my organization identify lies in line with my personal values. Unlike other employees a leader gets to exercise a wider control on the decision he/she takes on the progress of the organization which in turn reflects the values of the individual. But then the leader is also responsible for the benefit of the all the stakeholders involved in an organization. Thus, it’s his/her responsibility that the values identified benefit all the stakeholders and not the individual interest of the leader. I believe that each of the values that I’ve identified doesn’t show my personal values alone but values on which a sustainable organization can be built.
Authenticity is a value that every successful organization has built upon. It’s the reputation of the company among the customers that results whether an organization is successful or not. Though a company operates on a lot of uncertainty it is very important for the leader to identify what he/she can promise. It is always okay to under promise and over deliver but to over promise and under deliver is the worst outcome that any stakeholders want to overcome. In a world of innovations and changes it becomes significant for the company to grow in terms of the product or service offered but that doesn’t mean that an organization would embrace a practice that contradict its values.
