In “College Prepares People for Life “by Freeman Hrabowski, states colleges prepare people for jobs, but more critically, they prepare people for life. I agree with this statement.
College creates an outline for job success, and is also a safety net to the future. Starting out in a business without an education, or skill can be a headache for employers, but easier if you have the degree and the skill set needed to do recommended tasks. I would say most high school graduates don’t have the necessary skills to get a job. But when you’re in college, and have the required credits, and GPA you can enroll, or get chosen for internships. Which, also looks good on your resume. College helps you create connections, relationship, and opportunities with classmates, and professors who can be valuable contacts and good sources of information in the future. Another reason is college can improve your earning potential. If your employer sees you have other training in certain educational fields than you’re more likely to be chosen for extra hours at work or a pay raise. Well, some may say college is very time consuming and that you don’t have to attend to get a job, but that may be true, but if you want a job that pays you a substantial amount money a year you should plan on attending. So those who decided not to attend any colleges or universities are taking a risk with their own futures.
College is also a place to hone in on skills that have you ready for different situations. Time organization is one of the most important skills you will learn. What I mean by that is some people don’t just go to school all day. Students have to make time for work, family, extra curriculum activities, and personal life. It takes hard work and organization to earn a degree. Another skill you learn is oral speaking which you take in speech class. It helps students be comfortable with speaking front of a group of people. Well some people are not comfortable with this skill, but they need to improve on it because most workers need to presentations. Furthermore, writing well is one of those skills that will benefit you for the rest of your life, both academically and professionally.
No said college was going to be easy there are whole a lot obstacles you have to face to make it to that successful life we’re talking about. Procrastination is one of them obstacles you have to face. As deadlines come near, students will find themselves using their time for anything but homework or assignments, but rather put it off trying to escape it. According to the American Psychological Association, between 80 and 95 percent of college students procrastinate on their assignments. Some are able to explain this behavior by claiming working under pressure is the best method for them. This may not be the whole truth. The reason students procrastinate is fear of failure. But there solutions to fix this problem, limit distractions, break down long assignments, find a study buddy, and do assignments ahead of time. Another obstacle is anxiety. The world is changing fast, and many high salary jobs relied on education beyond high school level. Earning a college education provides stability to your life. People with a college education have better job openings, and chances earning more money. And on their journey, they improve and reinforce skills and knowledge that can never be taken away. Higher education leads the way to financial and educational opportunities. Educated people are hired at increasing rates than uneducated people. If you knock down all the obstacles, and found new improved skill while doing so you are ready for what life offers you.
