Jurassic Park is a decent book compared to the movie. Although many today won’t read the book due to the famous movie there is a lot of things that are different. The basic plot is similar to that of the movie however most notably it starts off in a different way. For instance, it starts off at an archeological site in Costa Rica after unknown species of lizards attack the children there. While the book and the movie are similar, it is still important for fans of the story to have also read the original book.
The story begins on a scene where a person, who has been bitten by something, is needing the attention of a doctor. Before dying, the patient is asked what did this to which they respond that it was a raptor. After some bit of looking for what raptor means she finds a meaning in English, which says raptor: bird of prey. The book goes to a family going to a deserted beach to where Tina the youngest girl gets bit by a lizard on hind legs, which then cause Dr. Gutierrez to investigate the scene which then he finds a carcass of a lizard matching the description of Tina. He then gets the carcass and sends it to lab to see what spices it is which it is identified as a dinosaur. The remains are sent to Dr. Grant a paleontologist who is shocked then gets flown before he can do more investigating to Isla Nublar. The island is owned by John Hammond, which he uses to turn the island to Jurassic Park, a park full of dinosaurs. Due to a concern about the islands safety, Donald Gennaro brought Ian Malcolm, Grant and Sattler to tour the island to make sure its safe. Malcolm uses his chaos theory to support his answer that the park is doomed. The parks computer technician Denis Nerdy is hired by the rival company to steal fifteen dinosaur embryos this would soon seal the fate of Jurassic park later on. Malcolm and grant and the grand kids for Hammond and the lawyer went on the automatic drive around the exhibits to tour the park. Due to the park being mostly automated and the electrical fences, when Nerdy shuts down power to the park to steal the embryos he shuts down the entire park. He then proceeds to drive to the dock to leave but is then killed by a dilophosuar when he crashes. Due to the shutdown, the cars stop in front of the rex exhibit where it would soon break out and eat Regis, injuring Malcolm, while also scouring Grant and the kids out in to the park. Robert Muldoon the parks warden went out to search for them only to recover injured Malcolm and retrieve him back. Shortly after this Arnold the park engineer has got the computer system running again, while Malcolm keeps talking about the chaos theory. Grant and the kids also make it back to the visitor’s center while finding a nest with eggs although the dinosaurs were all “female”. The power then went out again this time releasing the raptors. The raptors then go on to kill Arnold Wu and one of the raptors gets locked in a freezer. Since there is no one left to work the computers Tim some how get the fences back online before the raptors could penetrate the lodge skylight. Tim then calls the cargo ship to come back because of the raptors who jumped on board. Hammond gets killed by a small group of dinos. The Costa Rican National Guard then shows up to take everyone and blow the island up.
Jurassic Park is a very good book, although I was heartbroken of how different it was then the movies. I can’t believe they killed of some good characters like Hammond or Malcolm. I did not like the fact that they blew the island up but I did like how the opening of the book was with a mystery opening and a rather for me upsetting ending like a sharp turn ending. Overall I appreciated the book’s difference in story that still was able to be nearly as good as if one were to see the movie.
