Poseidon’s roman name was Neptune which meant god of the sea and earthquakes. He is usually in his watery domain under the sea. If Poseidon wanted to he could mess with water, lightning and storms which made them strong and violent. He was one of the supreme gods of Mount Olympus.
Poseidons parents are Rhea and Cronus and they are both Titans. He is one of six siblings that divided powers of the world. Their names were Zeus, Hestia, Hades, Hera, and Demeter. He was married to Amphitrite, Nereus daughter. He had two children with Amphitrite named Triton and Rhode and gave birth to seals and dolphins. He had many other children with other women.
When Poseidon was born Cronus his father swallowed him and his brothers. Cronus thought his sons would overthrow him just like he did his own father so he wanted them dead. Zeus saved all 5 of them and led a war with Cronus and the other Titans. When he was an adult he had many relations with other women and men then had many children behind Amphitrites back.
Poseidon was beyond middle age but not too old. He had grey curly hair and a large beard and very muscular. He had a trident for his weapon with which he ruled the seas. His symbols were the trident, dolphin, horse, turquoise, ash tree, and a white pine tree.
In celebration of Poseidon ancient Greece they gave gifts and animals sacrifices in grand temples built in the honor of him. His temple is in Sounion, Greece the Views of Hresea. Poseidon was worshipped as the fertility god and connection of navigation. He had a palace under the sea made of gems and coral but spent most of his time in Mount Olympus.
A myth about Poseidon is called “The Tale of Poseidon and Medusa”. Before Medusa had snakes in her hair and could turn people into stone she was a beautiful maiden. One day Poseidon was looking for new romance and saw Medusa in the loving sun. She took a promise of chasity and didn’t have no interest in Poseidon but that didn’t stop Poseidon in any way. As the time went by he tried “wooing” her but didn’t work so he got angry and tried taking her with force. She ran to the temple of Athens, wrapped herself in gold and plead for help but her wishes were unanswered. So when Poseidon found her he took her and had her way with her and left her there. When Athens found out she punished Medusa and turned her into a creature with snakes as hair with golden wings and whoever looked at her turned into stone. As the result she had two children by Poseidon one was a horse named Pegasus and a man with a giant stature named Chrysaor.
As the result Poseidon was good for helping people across the sea and maintaining the sea. But was a bad person for cheating on his wife with countless lovers.
