Abortion has been the most controversial topic in our society since the 1900s leading to our modern society today. Since the 1970s, the new laws of Roe vs Wade changed the outcomes of abortion into making it legal, even though it has been legal in most states in America. However, a recent law signed in the State of Georgia by Brian Kemp contradicted the Roe VS Wade case changing the whole abortion laws for women. The topic of abortion has been disregarded in some cultures and deemed inhumane, but most women have risen up in protest of this stigma against the judgment they have been getting from the society. However, I feel that women should have the freedom of choice to do what they feel is right with their bodies and that the new Laws signed by Brian Kemp aiming to sentence women to years in prison for having an abortion should be removed for the sanity of these women.
The Heartbeat laws released on May 7th, 2019 was signed and ruled in the Supreme Court in Georgia by the Republican Governor, Brian Kemp. The contract signed by Brian Kemp aimed to ban all abortion procedures done by women during their first six weeks of pregnancy. This statement became a discussion to most people that believed in the “Pro-Choice” movement such as a lot of well-known Hollywood professionals and one of them was Alyssa Milano who took this matter of abortion to social media. She drafted an open letter and petition to give to other celebrities that would support the “anti-criminalization of abortion”. Alyssa Milano created a petition that was against the ruling of the abortion laws in Georgia this year. She wrote an open letter and sent it out for petitions to be signed by other celebrities in an attempt to raise awareness on this “Heartbeat” law. The celebrities that took part in this were Alec Baldwin and Gabrielle Union and many other celebrities.
Women should have the right to freedom of choice especially when it comes to something so sensitive like the topic of abortion. Women should not be controlled and told what they should do with their bodies, especially coming from a male’s perspective. We might not know what these women have gone through for them to do an abortion and in most instances, it is not our place to question them on their reasons for partaking in the abortion procedure. For many generations that have past, I have witnessed women being controlled and told what was right and what was wrong for their bodies. This is an unfair approach ruled against women because women were never given the opportunity to express themselves until recent years when feminism was introduced to society. I think that women have the right to choose how they want to live their lives just like any man would want to be respected to live his life. It should never be a debate whether or not should women get an abortion. Women should be allowed to choose how they feel about the procedure.
Women should not be judged or seen as criminals if they are trying to save their lives from disability or complications that relate to their pregnancies. The abortion procedures were made to save women's lives that were in harm's way such as complications they face during their pregnancies. Most women suffer from abnormal or still pregnancies that affect their health. Such cases would be; high blood pressure or infections that the fetus gets inside the mother's womb which leads to damaging the mother's womb or even kills the mother carrying the child. This is something that the State has never considered as I think that there are more male decision-makers making these decisions for women. This statement proves one of the advertisements shown by the Planned Parenthood advertisement that “Seventy-seven percent of anti-abortion leaders are men and that 100% of them will never be pregnant. These men that are against the “Pro-choice” movement will never understand what women go through during their pregnancies.
Women have the right to choose what is right for their bodies as some of them end up facing unfortunate circumstances such as being sexually assaulted and forced into having sexual intercourse against their will with men that take advantage of them. This is something that most women have to live with and most of these cases are unfortunately done with no protection and most women end up falling pregnant with an unwanted child, thus making them grow much resentful of how they conceived their unwanted child. However, these cases were not thought out for these women as they are never considered into our society which makes this very sad for these women as they have to live with the trauma of having to live and raise a child from rape.
However, most religious people argue the fact that abortion is seen as murder in the eyes of God, and that they are killing what could have been a human brought into this world. Most people say that these procedures are seen as a sin and not a normal way of taking the life of an unborn child out of this world, and should be deemed illegal for these women as they are taking lives. Although the State of Georgia declared this illegal, most politicians and Church Decans also rose up to this law to support the State's ruling as they see this as a law that should be deemed illegal for all these women including the women that have already taken part in committing abortion. This ruling started getting popular regardless of the open letter that Alyssa Milano sent out to the state to stop the “Heartbeat” laws. However, this law was seen as contradictory to what the State has preached about Global Warming and the high human population in the world. The government has been stating that people need to lessen the rate of conceiving babies as the world will become but then when most women take their statement to act they react to what these women do. There was even a movie created on the use of a high human population called “What happened to Monday” directed by Tommy Wirkola. His movie talks about the destruction that overpopulation does to the world and how most people are allowed to only have one child per household, which was a law that was practiced in China as most women had to give up their children to only having one child per household as the government made it mandatory for these women to only have one child. This resulted in most families hiding their children or escaping China to live where they can be free from the oppression. Now, this is becoming to most women as they are no longer to do what they want to do with their bodies.
However, I do believe that it is of most women's choice of what they want to do with their bodies. Who are we to judge them for the choices they make? They are women that are old enough and wise enough to understand the repercussions of their choices and even if they do abortion, whether or not they are found guilty they are the ones that will have to live with these decisions for the rest of their lives. I think that the law ruled by Brian Kemp is unfair because, most women in this world are sexually assaulted on a daily bases as studies have found that in Africa the majority of women are raped every day, and most of these cases are found as unprotected sex thus, leaving these women pregnant with an unwanted child that will forever torment their emotions mentally when they think of how they conceived their babies. However other women end up facing crucial physical disabilities that ends up making them have abnormal pregnancies and leaving them to sit with the decision of whether or not should they save their lives or have the baby live without a mother, which results in creating a motherless generation that could one day repeat the cycle of motherless children.
