Introduction

Many people have their own ideology. Ideology is a system of ideas or ideals, especially ones that form the basis of economic or political theory and policy. The ideology that is going to be presented in this paper is abortion. The history of the belief of weather or not it should be legal goes ack further than the 1973 Roe v. Wade court case.

Body

I selected the Camosy (2019) article entitled: “I Am Pro-Life. Don’t Call Me Anti-Abortion” because when my triplet brother were born, the doctor asked my mom if she would like to abort two of them. I can’t even imagine how life would be without the two, so I am also pro-life.

In this article, the author talks about how a big struggle in the abortion debate is language. For example, when people get an abortion, many times they don’t refer to the baby as a baby, to make what they’re doing better. They’ll call it a fetus, but people don’t have fetus showers, they have baby showers. Just because you don’t call it a baby, doesn’t mean it isn’t one.

The ideology expressed in this article is a religious one. The Patterson (12th edition) book entitled: “We The People: An Introduction to American Government,” talks about ideology and the different group orientations. In the article the author, Charles C. Camosy, stated quotes from Pope Francis, whom is catholic, and also refers to how the Pope “saved some of the strongest languages for condemning abortion. This statement aligns with the ideology of religion.

In the Patterson (12th edition) book entitled: “We the People: An Introduction to American Government,” in chapter 6 it discusses ideology and the different group orientations. One of those group orientations is religion. My personal ideology is based off of my religion, which is Christianity.

My personal ideology makes me look at the article different than someone else. I agree with most of the authors arguments because we both base our ideology off of our religion ,which in ways, is similar. There are also some things that I disagree with because the author is a democrat, and I am a republican. One example of our differences is when the author says that Trump treats people as objects, like separating immigrant children from their parents. I don’t believe that is the case. I feel as though he is doing what is best, even if we do not agree.

Conclusion

It is extremely important to understand your personal ideology, especially in topics that are politically important. Your ideology is a way to have an opinion in politics and show your beliefs. It is also very important to be able to read an article, or see something on the television and know where you stand. In conclusion, I strongly support you to find what your personal ideology is to help better our country.
