Technology is one of the forces that drive our world today, it pushes people to have dreams and see them come to pass. It pushes against all limits and hopes to see to it that success in all ramifications is achieved to set goals and to this end, we see diverse innovations made in many spheres of the world today because of technology.
Some of this innovations come in various ramifications and one of them is in the sector of commerce would include the aspect of robotics. However, it is a fact that although there has been tremendous progress in the field of robotics, it is also true that this sector has some major shortcomings largely due to its largely centralized structure etc. There is this saying that “if you want to go fast, you go alone, but if you want to go far you should go with others in a group”.
Technology has often been viewed as a tool that lessons man’s workload. Its introduction has made the life of man more enjoyable and less tedious on a daily basis. The life of industry has been made even more efficient with the introduction of robots to help carry out auxiliary actions and duties. Even in our homes, there has been an increase in demands for robots and artificial intelligence (AI) to aid in carrying out some tasks. In lieu of this attempts have been made to develop robotic hardware that can match this increasing demand for robotics and their usage in our society. Against this backdrop, however, despite the many technological advancements there are still some problems and factors that slow down the achievement of this very important feat and some of them would be highlighted below;
Due to the highly centralized nature of the manufacture of robots in our contemporary time, it has made the use of robots highly inaccessible because of the high charges levied on potential users of such services. the costs of obtaining such services have gone so high to a point where mainly companies use or are able to access and use robots.
To further compound the problems of centralization and cost, there arise the complications of the many different parts of a robot being produced by different companies. A typical robot would comprise of parts manufactured by different manufacturers and although this move is done to reduce the cost of manufacturing the robot it has not made it easier and the end users still find the cost still very much exorbitant in the end.
There also exists the problem that arises from the lack of good interfaces and abstraction layers for software, electrical, and mechanical systems on which some of this robots run. This makes such companies not to have a common front for the usage or manufacture of these robots for use in our society.
By the end of the day despite most of these creative efforts taken, some of this robots end up to b very slow and not fit for the purpose of which they were made for. The manufacturing process thus becomes very hard and tedious for the manufacturers as some lack the required knowledge to make more efficient systems etc. This few mentioned points and some others have impeded on the efficiency of the robotics industry in our society.
