Proving The Existence of God by Scientific Reasoning

There are many arguments, reasoning and logics given to prove the existence of God, some of which are as below:

1. Fitrah argument
2. Designer and Designer Argument
3. Scientific Reasoning
4. Religious Phenomenon and Observation.

In my opinion, the scientific argument is the strongest of all because it lists so many reasons why and how there exists an Almighty God who created and runs the whole system of this universe and the other universes and all the things in there, down to their microscopic cells. The scientific method forces us to look around and ponder on this point that who is the creator. As I see it, the scientific method also encompasses the design and designer argument in itself.

“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.” (Al-Quran 3:190)

The whole universe around us is a gorgeous display showing us how the Almighty exists and is the perfect of planners. From our own human bodies, to numerous other creatures; animals, birds, insects, mountains, lakes, rivers, oceans, minerals, elements, planets, solar systems, the moons, the stars, all of their existence and their unique properties that could only be the creativity of our Lord, tell us that there exists a God.

While discussing this argument, we assume that there can only be three scenarios regarding the creation of something.

1. It came from nothing: One can say that any creation came into being all on its own, without the influence of any other thing.
2. It created itself: That the creation gave birth to itself which sounds preposterous.
3. It was created by someone: Now, this assumption makes the most sense of all, being the most rational and sober.

Now we look at a few examples, supporting this argument:

Origin of Life

Man has learnt after years of scientific research that human body is over 60% water. Cells are the basic unit of a human body. A single cell is composed of about 65% of water. The brain and heart are around 73% water, the lungs are 83% water, and the skin contains 64% water. Likewise, muscles and kidneys are 79% water and even our bones constitute 31% water. Now, man came to know about all this through extensive research only a few decades ago while the Quran mentions this more than 1400 years ago, as;

“...and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?” (Al-Quran 21:30)

This can only be said by the true creator of this universe who is the creator of all, because he holds all the knowledge and is the all-knowing. Only He could guide us like this.

Expansion of the Universe

It was only around 1912, that the Big Bang theory started evolving and today we all know how the universe is expanding continuously and that too at a fast rate. Hubble explained this phenomenon after observing this through a telescope by giving the example that if we take a balloon and mark dots all over it then, when we inflate it, the dots start getting farther and farther. Similarly, the universe is also expanding. This great discovery was foretold in the Quran as following, proving that God exists.

“And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are its expander.” (Al-Quran 51:47)

Force of Gravity

Force of gravity is a natural force by virtue of which all objects in the universe are brought close to each other. Gravity is not really a force but it exists due to the uneven distribution of mass in the universe. Man came to know about this through Albert Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity. This came forward after years of research. But if we look at the Holy Book, we find God saying:

“It is Allah who erected the heavens without pillars that you can see; then He established Himself above the Throne and made subject the sun and the moon, each running its course for a specified term. He arranges each matter; He details the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain.” (Al- Quran 13:2)

Theory of Relativity (Isra and Mairaj)

Through the miracle of Miraj, Almighty Allah wanted to tell us about the concept which we today know as the theory of relativity. Albert Einstein came forward with this theory, that sys that the laws of physics are same for all non-accelerating observers, and shows that the speed of light stays the same in vacuum, and the speed of the observer with which the observer travels, doesn’t matter. Mairaj is the miraculous journey that took the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in one night from Mecca to Jerusalem, and then ascended to heavens. Now, man cannot comprehend this according to our senses or natural or physical laws, but the God is not bound to any laws, let alone any laws created by himself. God reveals this as:

“He arranges each matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him in a Day, the extent of which is a thousand years of those which you count.” (Al-Quran 32:5)

Furthermore, the spirits and angels travel around without being bound to the physical and natural laws that we humans are bound by. This is only due to the God who is Almighty who can do whatever he wants. God mentions in the Holy Book that:

“The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.” (Al-Quran 70:4)

Mountains

Science has discovered that that mountains however high they are, have deeper than their tallness roots inside the Earth. American geophysicist, Frank Press of the Oxford University, in his book Earth, tells that the mountains have roots. A mountain peak with an elevation of 8000 feet has a root of more than 20,000 feet of a root. Now, man cannot even think about this that a mountain can have a root beneath the Earth. The book of the God, foretold this more than 1400 years ago, when man could not even think about this. God says:

“Have We not made the earth a resting place? And the mountains as stakes?” (Al-Quran 78:6-7)

The word stakes here means the anchor/root present beneath the Earth’s surface under the mountain.

Marvel of the Oceans

In the Gulf of Alaska, there are two oceans which meet at a point. One ocean is of sweet water and the other is salty ocean. It is surely a miracle of God, that the salty and sweet oceans do not cross each other and mix, but stay separate and as they are. The only explainable that can be given for this special phenomenon is that God has done this and only He can do this. The Lord in The Book says:

“He released the two seas, meeting side by side; Between them is a barrier so neither of them transgresses.” (Al-Quran 55:19-20)

Orbit of the Sun

In 1512, astronomer Nicholas Copernicus put forward his theory that the sun is motionless at the center of the solar system. He also stated that the planets revolve around this motionless sun and that the sun is stationary. This claim was later refuted, but if we look at the Holy Quran, revealed more than 1400 years ago, then we find the following verse:

“And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all heavenly bodies in an orbit are swimming.” (Al-Quran 21:33)

Light of Moon – A Reflected Light

It was always thought that the moon had its own light but through extensive research, it was declared that the moon did not have its own light but it reflected the light of the sun due to which it shine sat night. Now, who could have mentioned this in a book over 1400 years ago? In my view, only a true God and the creator of the objects could have known and told us this.

“It is He who made the sun a shining light and the moon a derived light and determined for it phases - that you may know the number of years and account of time. Allah has not created this except in truth. He details the signs for a people who know” (Al-Quran 10:5)

All Creatures in Pairs

We can see that all human beings, animals, and even plants have their own male and female partners which reproduce to keep their generations going. Now, even this detail was also predicted in the Holy Quran. Only God who created/produced all of us could tell us about it.

“And of all things We created two mates; perhaps you will remember.” (Al-Quran 51:49)

Biometric Fingerprints.

We also find that the uniqueness and different fingerprints of every human also mentioned very clearly in the Holy Quran. It is stated that:

“Yes. We are Able even to proportion his fingertips.” (Al-Quran 75:4)

When we look at all the above mentioned and also various other scientific things written, we come to realize that the probability of predicting/foretelling all these things correctly is close to being negligible. It is only a miracle of the Almighty Allah. Owing to all these proofs, we can very confidently say that there exists a God. A God so powerful, that no one is even close to his might.

“Originator of the heavens and the earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is.”
