Some go to assumptions that making 18 year olds do a year of community service before they pursue college or a paying job is a great idea, I stand to think this is not a good idea. Most kids the age of 18 are still in highschool, more than likely it is their last year of highschool. Students already undergo extreme amounts of stress. Therefore, having them forced to do a year-worth of community service will add onto the stress they already have. Most students participate in some sort of after school activity, because they do these after school activities most students don’t get home until a later time. Once they get home they also have to do all their homework. To school athletes grades are their number one focus.

Most athletes are worried about their grades because they want to get a scholarship. Time is something most students don’t have, so where would they fit this “community service time” in? Since the students are being forced to do these community service hours and not by wanting to, they will get extremely lazy. Once people get lazy then they will not do a good job. A good example of this is when you are busy doing something and your mom asks you if you can do something for her, even though you already have stuff going on. You can say that while you are doing this task for your mother, you will do it very lazy like and not do a good job on whatever it is that she asked you to do. For those who graduate before they are 18, they will more than likely want to go to college right away or start their new jobs. Students are in extreme debt, and waiting a year can put them in bigger debt, at this time most 18 year olds will be living on their own and not with their parents so they will have to make a certain amount of money to supply all the things that are needed in order to live.
For all the reasons stated above, no time, in need for money, and being forced into something they don’t want to do. 18 year olds should not have to be forced to do community service.
