It is with great pleasure that I recommend Amy Zaragoza, who I had the pleasure of working with for 5 years. Amy has demonstrated amazing effort and growth throughout the years that I have known working with her. She has that rare combination of a positive attitude and the belief in the face of adversity she can always persevere. I am confident that she will continue to display the same tenacity and hard work in everything she does. Your scholarship is intended for students who need financial assistance to realize their academic dreams. Amy deserves to be able to go to further her college education goals, and this scholarship will enable her to do so. Amy and her husband Jose has had some ups and downs in life financially, but they continue to stay optimistic and always hope for a better future for themselves.

Amy maintained a high average throughout her college classes. She always goes for extra credit or helps any other students that don’t understand by giving them the proper resources that helped her understand an assignment. Amy contributed to our workplace environment by seeing a need and offering to solve it by making new spreadsheets or changing up certain practices at work to better accommodate our patients in the Emergency Center.

Amy’s belief in her ability to always learn new skills and improve as an individual was likely shaped by her years as a volunteer for the City of Houston. She’s worked with Former Mayor Annalise Parker’s team, Mayor Sylvester Turner’s team, and worked with Eleanor Tinsley Park Houston Firework show for years. Amy found ways to make things better, when she is passionate something she comes alive and when she puts her mind to it nothing will stop her until it is finished or achieved. As her former coworker and friend, it is inspiring to see her continue to make this kind of academic and personal progress towards her master’s degree.

I am confident that she will continue to demonstrate the same tenacity, growth-mindset, and optimism that she showed myself and others.
