Reflection on My English Writing Class

Reflective essay is an effective way for students to learn from their experience and think critically. In my first week I had an indulged emotions, excitement and stress. The topics that we have been covering each week have given me the opportunity to increase my knowledge. I think that in the future I will be fully prepared for Rhet 1010 and 1020. I’m very appreciative for everything I have learned in this class. Interacting with my colleagues was a bit difficult at first, but then it got much easier overtime. The benefits that I have learned in this course are plentiful in terms of academics and life skills.

Over the past four months this course has been one of the most helpful courses that I have ever taken. This class has helped me tremendously all around with different discussions. To my pleasant surprise, this English class to me was much better than the last semester’s class. I felt the information was coming much easier. I enjoyed the presented materials given by the teacher and felt a great improvement in my overall skills. Because of our many exercises I think that I became a good writer and a good critical thinker. Through the broad discussion and the professor’s guidelines, I have improved my analytical skills as well as organizational skills. The teacher’s discussion and guidelines were very essential for my learning outcomes and for understanding some literature reviewed in this course and their different aspects. Sometimes our teacher shows us some samples of other writers’ ideas and our colleagues ideas or essays which makes it easy for me to develop ideas. The teacher’s first class was very helpful to me because she reminded us of how to write a proper essay; for instance, an essay should start with an introduction and an introduction should start with a general idea and then gradually talk specifically, body one, body two and finally a conclusion. Although all of these seem easy, but without following this formula everything would be wandered and difficult to understand. What I have also learned in this course is that the paragraph should be detailed and the topic sentence should tell the readers what this paragraph is going to explain.

English 0210 has given me many things; for instance, helped me in knowing my own mistakes and learn from them, it guided me for better time management, and improved my ability to research and write correctly; moreover, to be confident of my own ideas and think beyond and broadly. Before taking this course I was fixated towards the fact that I had no problem in my writing skills due to the carless teachers during my high school years, so I did not change anything with my writing abilities. However, when I started taking this course I figured out that this English class has high standards than I used to take in my past years. When I got my first mark I did not get that high grade, but I definitely have learned from my mistakes. Peer revisions were sometimes done in the class and made me more aware of others mistakes so I won’t fall in these same mistakes.

In conclusion, I realized that taking this course is very crucial because it prepares one for a better communication through writing from expressing ideas and feelings as well as spoken English. Through writing reflections, essays and integrated essays I think it would for sure benefit me in the upcoming years. I’m looking forward to use my writing skills in the upcoming major courses.
