Computers can be amongst best creation man has ever made. With different features and abilities that makes life easier for us as human beings; like performing tasks ranging from searching up questions on the internet to performing rigorous activities in the medical field, and so many more. Without doubt, bias or critical thinking, we can easily say that our moving forward with the future is in cooperation or coexistence with the future of Artificial Intelligence (A. I. ). Observing how rapidly science and technology has grown in recent years, our computers and machines will only become much more sophisticated that some people fear we might lose control of our creation like a Sci-Fi movie where the created attacks its creator. Our future must move on but sophistications of A. I. systems don’t; because it causes major negative effects which includes: increasing high levels of unemployment, sedentary lifestyle and even worse, endangerment of lives and property.
The effects of increased high tech on employment is not known precisely, only estimations are made. But a study done by The McKinsey Global Institute roughly calculates that between 400 million and 800 million of today’s job will be mechanized in just 13 years from now. With automation gradually taking people's job, this increase in the coming future will in turn increase the gap between the rich and poor, also making it harder to bridge those gaps already created. Although these technologies will stimulate or improve the rate of productivity, families of working men and women who make up the work force or the labor market will be greatly affected, together with our economy.
While much attention has focused on how AVs (Automated Vehicle) will impact personal mobility, they could also transform the way many businesses provide goods and services. For businesses, AVs could represent a capital investment in a labor-saving technology, with the potential to substitute for the labor currently tasked with driving. On the other hand, AVs, by improving safety or reducing travel time, may provide functions that are complementary to functions of workers in these businesses, ultimately boosting the demand for them. These automated vehicles pose threat to eliminating jobs, because the need of those skills will no longer be needed or wanted, causing even more high levels of unemployment. Another way we are getting affected is directly in our homes. These machines that help make life feel better for us, are causing us harm and we don’t even know it.
Articles have explained that allowing children that have continuous interaction with artificially intelligent assistants can affect their social and emotional development as well as their cognitive and motor skills: Parents, your child may have a new secret friend: your smart speaker. Drawn by the devices' voice-activated interfaces and warm, playful tone, children as young as 1 are interacting with Amazon's Alexa, Google's Assistant or Apple's Siri long before they can type or swipe, new research shows. This is new territory for families. For the first time, children who are too young to distinguish fantasy from reality are engaging with devices powered by artificial intelligence.
Many see smart speakers as magical, imbue them with human traits and boss them around like a marine drill sergeant, according to several new studies in the past year. Because these devices will not be critical or judgmental, children (adolescents included) will confide more in these A. I. devices causing them to lose social skills or proper cognitive and emotional development. A. I. systems are only becoming more sophisticated rapidly as the years go by. Due to this quick growth and development, alarming levels of negative effects like endangerment of lives and properties, increased rate of unemployment and many more are also increasing rapidly. Unemployment levels are only thought to sky rocket because of the introduction of A. I. systems into the labor market. 400 to 800 million jobs will be autonomous, displacing workers from their source of income.
These negative effects from A. I. systems further carry on to our home by posing a threat to the proper development of our children. Our kids now spend more time in front of digital screens instead of enjoying the outdoors; hence, hindering their social, emotional and cognitive skills. Despite of the good aspects of A. I. technologies, we should not allow the future of these machines to get more sophisticated to the point where it jeopardizes our own future.
