A remarkable grant-winning novel, If Beale Street Could Talk, which was distributed in 1974 and pursues a youthful dark couple whose lives are destroyed by a bogus criminal allegation, is a harbinger of James Baldwin's late style. Baldwin's abstract writing spread over the 1700s when the United States saw numerous seismic political and social movements. Specifically, the novel denoted an essential turn in how the creator tried to describe the most tolerating subject and a good guideline of his work: love. The novel depended on a practical fictional sort, Baldwin achieves to utilize a composition style that was straightforward and fathomable for any age extend, which additionally establishes a pace on a fictional composition.

If Beale Street Could Talk is the first Baldwin's novel to concentrate solely on a Western society concept. Told in Trish’s perspective, the novel pursues her pregnancy and the challenging endeavor to get Fonny discharged from prison. While If Beale Street Could Talk is an insightful account of the American injustice in the black community, the storyline of precise prejudice doesn't overshadow the love story of the youthful couple. Baldwin truly set the pace by incorporating flashbacks in his novel, this gave the story a superior comprehension of the present and a more profound comprehension in Fonny and Tish's love story that set the topic all through the novel. As well as flashbacks I also enjoyed Baldwin's writing style, it makes it simple for anybody to comprehend the story, by doing this, he grants the reader a chance to decipher the meaning and give his audience a superior comprehension of the shameful acts that dark individuals need to experience. In the novel, Baldwin passes on the helpful and suffering forces of important human association, proposing that love can give individuals expectations in any circumstances when nothing else will. James Baldwin emphasizes the impacts of love in his novel by showing how love holds Tish and Fonny together. By this means, Tish has been hoping that sooner or later Fonny will get out of jail before she gives birth to their child which both of them considered it a symbol of hope by reminding Fonny that their love  — as well as their unborn child — are motivations to endure through the bad form and prejudice that landed him in jail. Luckily, Tish had support from both of her parents that give her hope to keep fighting for what she truly loves which was her love for Fonny. The support from her family came along when Tish was feeling sad because she couldn't get Fonny out of prison, one night Tish's mom said to her, “I don’t want to sound foolish. But, just remember, love brought you here. If you trusted love this far, don’t panic now”. Tish is troubled with the fact that Fonny is in jail, however the explanation this circumstance is so sincerely troublesome that she cherishes Fonny, and this ought to advise her that she has not lost hope to wait for him and just keep “trusting love”.

The novel overall was different in a good way, it wasn't the best book I've ever read but it was quite significantly different that left me wanting more to read. What I enjoyed the most from the novel was the writing style, the style as it was written gave you a sense that you could feel the characters talking to you, it was rather more of a modern voice which gave a better understanding to a young audience. I would recommend this book to people around the ages of 16 and above because some content in the book required more a mature audience to understand, as well as, people that enjoy reading something more modern with a cultural aspect than early English literature. This novel might give a better understanding of the individuals that agree with the injustices that colored people go through since it was a point that Baldwin mainly touched. The only gripe I have is that is too short, by the time the novel ends it leaves you hanging for more, but this hanging is what builds suspense. Furthermore, not only was it a novel about people in love, what I got the most out of it was the cultural concepts and race in Western
