The legitimacy issue that Gladwell established in the chapter 7 is very interesting because of the example of “The Troubles” he explains that when the law is applied and legitimacy is not involved instead of producing obedience it produces the opposite, it leads to backlash. This chapter gives a better perspective and explanation on what exactly legitimacy is mainly about and it can be better understanded by making you think in example that everyone currently thinks in the society that we live in. Who has their job determined and why they should or should not have.

Gladwell made clear his point in the chapter 7, he argued about how the authority can cause an outrageous damage in the society by becoming unruly and this is due to the important people, the ones that are ruling not wanting to hear the point of view of the people that are being governed. Gladwell is such a credible person, very open minded and with interesting ideas. I say that he is credible because he showed evidence by giving the examples of the british and the irish and the teacher and her class, both examples were exceptional and very well illustrated. The example of the british and the irish is when the people that are being governed have no voice when it comes to say something to the ones that are governing and that there is no point in just even trying to be listened to by them. The second example is the one with the teacher and her class where the teacher focus most of her attention to one student and leave the rest without any which is very unprofessional and should be a reason for her not to be qualified to be a professor because is not just one student that is in the classroom, there is plenty of them and all of them deserve the same attention as the one kid that was receiving the attention.

David and Goliath is mainly about the different kinds of powers and how people sometimes immediately assume who deserves to be who and there is when the legitimacy comes in, the society not caring and just saying and giving a random opinion just for not to be involved in a situation that they do not feel comfortable with. The accurate explanation of what an underdog truly means is outrageous, Gladwell was very convincing and took his ideas and formulated in a way that everybody would understand exactly what he was trying to say.

In the US today there is a major worry about authenticity, particularly with regards to the relationship shared between the police and dark network. When a black person commits a crime they may receive a tougher and higher punishment than someone who is white, and this is the type of thing that many look at and view as being unfair and discriminatory and a common example of racism. Gladwell expressed, ' the authority has to be fair. It can’t treat one group differently from another.' We can utilize Gladwell's argument. This issue of legitimacy might help with adding to divisiveness but the police are really going out on the appendage. We can repair this by blacks talking and the police or equity framework really tuning in to their interests and making changes. As a matter of fact, give a bigger number of blacks an opportunity as opposed to making a hasty judgment and hoping to give them the maximum sentence conceivable in endeavors to make them a model. to give them the max sentence possible in efforts to make them an example. The police should actually treat everyone equally and when they don't, they should be corrected and learn to never do that ever again because everyone deserves to be well respected. The major problem with legitimacy comes to the aspect of fairness once the law has been broken and I say it isnt due to the in group out group mentality. There are too many factors that can tip the scales like a judge’s interpretation of the law, who the selected jury is, or whether the accused has money of influence. If we all adopted an idea of community like the J-Rip program in Brownsville did by reaching out to the community and investing in one another we could see the same positive strides.

I think that this type of exercise is important because we learn how to distinguish the different points that every author made during every book, and in this case the author was Gladwell, a person with an impressive knowledge. I think that after the full review and analysis of the book but more essentially this chapter 7 is that legitimacy when someone just accepts the position of other people without hesitation and this goes more when it comes to the decision of the government and different types of authorities.
