This paper attempts to highlight the role of ICT in higher education. The impact of ICT in higher education will grow many changes in educational practices. Thus, the paper suggests that ICT in higher education is not a technique for educational development but also a way of socio-economic development of the nation.

Educational institutions should train teachers who are technology-competent and who effectively use and integrate technology into their teaching activities ICT has enhanced distance learning. It is important that teachers should be made to adopt technology in their teaching styles to provide practical and educational gains to the learners. Successful implementation of ICT to lead change is more about influencing and empowering teachers and supporting them in their engagement with students in learning rather than acquiring computer skills and obtaining software and equipment. ICT enabled education will ultimately lead to the modernization of education. This is actually moving of India through globalization in terms of higher education.
