Science Practical Report Stomach Acid

Research question

What will happen to a cantaloupe (rock melon) in different chemicals of different Ph's and leave over a time period of 5 days and then letting them dry for 5 days to see the final mass to see the difference from the beginning and end. Hypothesis: In the practical investigation the different acids will create a different effect on the rock melon. Dependent on the acid the rock melon will either dissolve or breakdown.

Risk assessment:

• Burns from acids
• Sickness from mould at end of practical investigation
• Cuts from knife when cutting rock melon
• Ingesting the acids
• Spilling the acids over
• Wear cloves to protect hands
• Were eye glasses and mask if necessary dependent on mould type
• Hold knife correctly and tuck fingers under knuckles
• Keep acids away from mouth and eyes
• Keep acids away from edges of tables and benches and away from areas that may be prone to spillage

Conclusion:

In conclusion the investigation shows that the not hydrochloric acid that things can go very wrong internally as the acid will turn the inside of your stomach causing dietary problems and externally it can be more harmful to the environment when released.
