Imagine yourself exploring your recently purchased cabin that’s hidden away next to a glistening blue lake in the piney mountains. Up in the attic you come across an old wooden six drawer dresser. It seems to be hiding something. You slowly push the heavy dresser out of the way to see what’s hidden behind it; look it’s a window. A “Secret Window”. This thrilling suspenseful movie has you on the edge of your seat the whole time.
Wondering what John Shooter will do next. Did Morton Rainey plagiarize Shooter’s story or is he just another crazy fan?Johnny Depp once again has out done himself with another outstanding performance as his character Morton Rainey the famous mystery author. I enjoy movies with twists and this movie has an exceptional twist to it. You will start out feeling sorry for Mort because of the devastating reason for his divorce from Amy, who happened to be cheating on him. I thought he was just like any other author who at times gets writer’s block and talks to themselves out loud. He had every right to prove himself to John Shooter that he didn’t plagiarize his story. No one wants to be accused of that. I continued to feel bad for Mort because every chance he had at trying to prove it, something bad would go wrong. Shooter burns down his house and rips the pages from the magazine. I kept on wondering, what more could go wrong? Then his innocent dog and two people are murdered. Morton is left to clean it up because Shooter made it look like he did it.
He goes to the police and hires a private investigator, but nothing is done, and Mort gets more paranoid. John Shooter tells Mort that he isn’t going anywhere until “right gets put right”. Makes me think he was talking about plagiarizing his story or was he talking about something else? When the more obvious clues of cigarettes and Shooter’s black velvet cowboy hat showing up throughout the cabin my perception of him started to change. My feelings toward this lonely character switched the moment Johnny Depp put on that black velvet cowboy hat. Mort says to himself, “you know what you have to do, fix the story, the ending”. Secret Window was a great title to this movie because Morton Rainey had a secret window that opened to his alter ego John Shooter. “The only thing that matters is the ending”. -Johnny Depp
