There are different problems those need experiments and need study. But we can’t able to do experiments at experimental level. Like honesty, democracy, public opinion, prejudice and etc. But we can’t able to get that moral that we cannot study these problems by scientifically rules. So we can study these problems from the research.
Here is our topic is “Self-esteem among working & non-working women”. As we know that women also play a very vital role in our society. And those societies are on the way of progress it’s just because of woman’s struggle. Therefore women known as the powerful force which can be used for the benefits and as well as nation’s progress. When we see many years ago we know that woman’s play a big role in buildings of nations. As we know about Pakistani women personalities like quaid e azam’s sister who known as Fatima Jinnah she do too much struggle with their brother Muhammad Ali Jinnah and also Marium Mukhtar who known as Pakistan’s (PAF) first lady pilot 24-year-old Flying Officer was martyred when her training aircraft crashed near Mianwali in November. Muniba Mazari who was named Pakistan’s first female Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. And also we have such women personalities those work for Pakistan as well as at different counties have such kind of women personalities who make proud for their nations. But according to my topic we can see nowadays women found at different level in our society as like man.
If we turn back at many decades ago we can able to see the value of woman at that time. People were thinks that woman are made for master in the art of home making. And they don’t like woman job and thinks that it’s like a big sin and abusive thing for woman and also for family. And its male dominated society. But now this perspective going to change that now considered that woman are not just made for domestic work and woman also have power to shapes a country , society and culture as like man. Nowadays this called feminism. We also have male dominated society but woman also have rights to spend their lives according to their own way. Women also worked at different places at different levels like women find in business, schools, banking, and also even in politics. Nowadays our expenses increased day by day therefore women also have responsibility to bare this situation by their jobs. And just because of this thinks that women has great influence on society’s progress. Women have double responsibility because women also play a vital role in domestic work. So, those who working women often also tossed between home and job. And according to my research topic aim of our study to compare the self-esteem among working and non-working woman. (Ujvala Rajadhyaksha, Swati Smita, 2004)
In modern time every person have some pressure or stress. Even every profession have some stress. Therefore, women also face stress and pressure at their working places as well as their homes. working women have double pressure because they should do their jobs and also their house hold activities. When women have double pressure its effected on mental and also effected on physical health.
In psychology the term self-esteem is used to describe a person’s overall sense of self-worth or personal value. In other words we can say that how much we appreciate and like our own self. It is possible to have proper self esteem as we are rightly related to our creator, God. We were created with these deep needs for personal security. Because with self esteem we can solve our problems and also face society with our well. The term self esteem was first coined by William James in 1890. Self esteem fully realized is the awareness that we are equal to the restricted place in front of us. In our society prefer to women's education be thinks that women play very important role to create good and healthy society. In a tweet, Mazari said, “We need to educate both men and women that if we empower one woman, we empower whole generation!”
The purposes of this research were to examine the relationship between work status and self-esteem in women with severe, persistent mental illness, self-esteem in working and nonworking women with severe mental illness. Women do their struggles. When about 67 years ago sub continent going to divide in two nations (Pakistan and India) women also do there struggles some worked at home and some worked at different working places like offices, hospitals and etc. At that moment Mahatma Gandhi (1959) says about woman they also as nobler personality. According to Mahatma Gandhi “If she is weak in striking, she is strong in suffering.” He wants to describe women as big rollers for nations. He further adds. “To call woman the weaker sex is a libel, it is man’s injustice to woman. If by strength is meant moral power, then woman is immeasurably man’s superior. (Ujvala Rajadhyaksha, Swati Smita, 2004)
A woman is a wife, sister, daughter, mother, mother in law and also grand-mother. But knowadays women wants to live as like they wants. She want social definition and empowermen. They don’t think that kitchen, house, children and husband are only their duty. There wants to will be a pleasant balance between work and family. We can not say that women those who work can not also manage their house works. Sometime those who are mange their house better then domestic women just because of their well power. Because they know well about their house hold duties. And also thinks that They are not just soft and feminine, but also hard as men. But working women face to much problems. Working women face three types of problems environmental, social and psychological. And every type of problems emerges in two situation; at working place and as well as their home. Alavi (2013) agreed with the first says some studies reported that employed women possess more sound psychological and mental health status than housewives. Large number of studies concluded that those who are working and considered that their professional role is a source of self-fulfillment scored higher on satisfaction level on life scale.
In our custom think about women that they are the property of others and notion use of “praya dhan” There traditional values not only restrict opportunities of learning and self-development, but also lead intra and inter personal problems. And according to traditions taught to women about their family and house works, and impose that the made for their house and its their duty that how should manage their house as wife, as mother, as sister and also as well as daughter. And for the women’s better future it is necessary to educate them. Therefore, for the education of women schools, colleges and universities are organized successfully day by day. But some how some countries as well as Pakistan restricted for the women’s education. But other then this situation large number women gets education in deferent institutions. And also gets jobs in different departments. We have male male dominant culture, where a male is responsible for financial and domestic matters. Males are perceived as the responsible and powerful person. It was also observed that in past , people avoid to get marry with a girl who is working but now they look for a working spouse as she could serve as a supporting hand and nurture her children in a better way than a traditional housewife. Now, people acknowledge the working women’s contribution to bear the financial needs of their families and families better future. The case in the conventional era in which women were supposed to stay at home and men had to earn the livelihood for their family that is still working out in many rural areas. These variations seem to have a stronger impact on lower middle class families than working and upper class families. It is generally believed that there are many benefits to having a positive view of the self. Those who have high self-esteem are presumed to be psychologically happy and health, whereas those with low self-esteem are believed to be psychologically distressed and perhaps even depressed. Having high self-esteem apparently provides benefits to those who possess it: They feel good about themselves, they are able to cope effectively with challenges and negative feedback, and they live in a social world in which they believe that people value and respect them. Although there are negative consequences associated with having extremely high self-esteem, most people with high self-esteem appear to lead happy and productive lives. By contrast, people with low self-esteem see the world through a more negative filter, and their general dislike for themselves colours their perceptions of everything around them.
Substantial evidence shows a link between self-esteem and depression, shyness, loneliness, and alienation low self-esteem is aversive for those who have it. That self-esteem is good for psychological health is evident in educational policy. Accumulated research suggests that unemployment is associated with increased depression and poorer self- esteem. Studies conducted in a western context find the relationship between gender and self-esteem, which is in favor of male adolescents, with females having lower self-esteem levels ; Harper and Marshell. Two studies conducted in a non-western context have not found gender differences in self-esteem . Their findings are particularly interesting in light of the observation by the researchers that in South African culture and in Chinese society. Young confidence was related to the level of peer integration and feelings about appearance. For girls, feelings about appearance strongly determined their confidence, with boys tending to be more confident than girls. Paluska, (2000) studied that individuals higher in self-esteem may be more likely to engage in exercise behavior.
The experimental studies conducted are artificial environmental conditions given. They do not address an individual independently and voluntarily engaging in exercise this factor affects the self-esteem. Deborah, (2004) conducted a study on quantitative and qualitative data of young adult daughters through Wisconsin Longitudinal Study. Nearly two-thirds of the mothers reported that they have been less successful than their daughters have, yet these unfavorable comparisons are linked only weekly to self-esteem. The present study aim is an attempt to investigate Self-Esteem among working and non-working married women because women face sexual harassment, house responsibility, family, depression and also face different problems. Chapter No 2; • Literature review; The word "self-esteem" was first used in 1890 by William James. “It is used to describe a person's overall sense of self-worth or personal value.” In other words, how much you can use your ability and how you can bright yourself in hard society.
