Jungle green is a muted more medium hue of green. To make any hue of green you need to mix equal amounts of the primary colours, blue and yellow to create your standard true green colour. However, to get to a jungle green you would need to make it a bit darker, which would mean adding in a bit of a darker colour such as black or brown. When I think of the colour jungle green the first thing that comes into my mind is, a birds eye view of a full lush green jungle. Full of millions of trees and plants. When first looking at the colour, it is nice and easy to look as it’s not too bright and it’s not too dark of a shade. It is just a pleasant colour to look at with it being a nice medium shade of green. This has the same effect on other people to. When i asked my friends, they replied with more or less the same answer. That they too associate this colour to a big green jungle when they first think of it. They also said that, they get quite a warm feeling when thinking more about the colour jungle green; similar to the feeling of being in a humid type atmosphere. It brings a jungle feel to mind and it also felt relaxing and positive. A lot of people see green as a very calming colour, it is meant to be one of the most calming colours to view from the human eye (Bourne. 2011).
Green is the colour of nature and surrounds us in our everyday environments. Wherever you look, your more than likely going to see the colour green when doing your day to day activities. As it’s such a common colour and we are surrounded by it everywhere. People also feel a spiritual connection with the colour green, with it being associated to nature and the earth. Green is directly associated to health, positivity, and energy especially since the use of green is used in a positive way in our everyday lives (Bourne. 2011).
When our battery on our phones is at full charge its green. When something usually has a tick or is “approved” it is usually green. There is so many more ways in which the colour green is used in a positive way. Such as when crossing the lights its usually a green light to indicate go and it’s safe to walk. On the other hand, when someone is exposed too much to the colour green, it can also have adverse effects on someone. Instead of it being a positive colour it can make someone feel depressed, moody or lazy (Bourne. 2011)Even with the colour being referred to as calming, peaceful and its connection to positivity and nature; It is also commonly associated with more negative things such as jealousy and greed. In William Shakespeare’s play Othello, Shakespeare had used the term “green with envy” to describe one of the characters (Shakespeare. 1603). It’s been used to describe negative things such as jealousy, greed and envy for a long period of time. We are that used to seeing green used in a positive way, that we are more likely to associate it with a positive reaction, feeling or thought. Other than a negative one. When out and about doing such things as crossing the road. We automatically know that red means stop and green means that it Is safe to go. We do this without even thinking about it most of the time, because we have known from such a young age that the colour green means go.
The colour is also used heavily in adverts to advertise things that are healthy for you. Even used for things such as a shop sign saying “open”. Society has used the colour green to associate positive things for a long time; we are just that used to it now, that when we see things such as a little green dot come up on Facebook, we automatically know that it stands for that person being online. It is being used again in a way to show something positive (Patel. 2009). A lot of peoples emotional and psychological attachment to the colour green in general. Whether that be jungle green or bright green, it is usually going to be more of a positive one due to the way it has been used in society; to describe positive feelings or emotions for so long. However, with the more darker shades of green being used to represent things such as, greed or envy some people may have a bit more of an unpleasant psychological attachment to that hue of green.
