There are only some things that literally can not live and one of them is sleeping, all living organisms sleep even plants and bacteria. People sleep almost a third of their lives. We can not avoid it since it is important for life since our body has to restore, rejuvenate, grow muscles, repair tissues and synthesize hormones.

It has been found to have many positive outcomes, which helps us process memories and keep our social and emotional lives in balance. Another founding is that humans sleep more than any other species. One of the reasons for this is survival and since we are at the top of the food chain so that we can kick it and relax but for other inferior species its not possible to not be aware at all times,according to animalogic the giraffe it’s one of the animals that don't sleep much ‘’With their long towering necks, sleeping isn’t the easiest activity for giraffes. Getting up once they lie down could take precious seconds and make them incredibly vulnerable to predators like lions and crocodiles'.

The dream gives the body a rest and allows it to prepare for the next day. It's like giving the body a little vacation. Sleeping also gives the brain the ability to solve things. Scientists do not know exactly what kind of organization the brain performs while we sleep, but they believe that sleep can be the time when the brain classifies and stores information, replaces chemicals and solves problems. Therefore, after learning something and sleep, the person can have more memory on the subject.

The amount of sleep a person needs depends a lot on age. National sleep foundation states all the hours from all the age groups a person should sleep:

  • newborns: sleep range 14-17 hours each day, 
  • infants: sleep range 12-15 hours, 
  • toddlers: sleep range 11-14 hours, 
  • preschoolers: sleep range 10-13 hours, 
  • school age children: sleep range 9-11 hours, 
  • teens: sleep range 8-10 hours, 
  • young adults: sleep range 7-9 hours, 
  • adults: sleep range 7-9 hours, 
  • old adults: sleep range 7-8 hours.

 

If a person does not sleep one night, the person may be in a bad mood and be easily irretaded. After two sleepless nights, the person will have trouble thinking and doing things. The brain and the body can not perform the usual tasks as easily as always. After 5 nights without sleep, the person will hallucinate. Finally, it becomes impossible for the brain to give direction to the rest of the body without sleeping and the person would die.

We do not know exactly what happens when we sleep, all we know are the effects of sleeping. However, healthy sleep proves that scientist came up with 4 theories on what happens when we sleep which are inactivity theory, energy conservation theory, restorative theory and brain plasticity theory. The inactivity theory was the adaptation of animals sleeping once they were safe from their predators. The energy conservation theory main purpose its to save energy when its less needed like at night. According to the article of healthy sleep the most reasonable theory its restorative theory where lots of stuff takes place “like muscle growth, tissue repair, protein synthesis, and growth hormone release occur mostly, or in some cases only, during sleep other rejuvenating aspects of sleep are specific to the brain and cognitive function”. Brain plasticity theory suggests that the brain is constantly changing, adapting, and reorganizing in response to experiences, environmental factors, and even sleep. During sleep, the brain consolidates memories and learns new skills. Studies have shown that sleep helps to improve memory consolidation, allowing the brain to store and retrieve information more efficiently. Sleep also helps to enhance cognitive function, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
