Technically, the meaning of sexuality can refer to the reproductive system or the normal biological motivation that is in every single living thing that has a heart. It can have to do with sexual intercourse or sexual contact, and it can also mean the emotional or physical aspect of sexuality which is what all species have when bonded with one another. This is sometimes expressed through different things. Some of those would be feelings and emotions which usually lead to aspects of sexual behaviour. Some different cultures and different parts of society believe different things about the ethics of sexuality and through this essay I will show the differences between religious thoughts and societies thoughts.

Firstly, to talk about societies view on sexuality. Through time society has changed their views repeatedly on sexuality and continue to change. A big impact on sexuality would be mainly media but some other things too. This can be in any form for example, TV, movies, magazines, Adds, music, dance, and much more. All of these have shaped society’s view on what is right or wrong about sexuality and what is appropriate or what is normal. Viewing these things in movies and other types of media can change and has changed the way people think. It has changed the idea that sex is not much of an emotional special thing anymore. It’s just something to have fun with. Now the biblical view on this is extremely different. The bible says that sex is a very special thing to have with a partner you will love and cherish for eternity. It says to only have sex after marriage and if you do not do this then it is a sin to god. The bible also says sex isn’t just about pleasure it is about creating a new being. This is shown in genesis when Adam and Eve have the first children ever created from another human. The bible also says that a man and a lady must love each other and become one flesh before sex. Genesis 2:24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

In 1. 1 Corinthians 7:2 “But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.” In this verse it is saying sex before marriage is a very big sin. This leads us to marriage.

The way media has changed the way people think about sexuality and sex is not the only thing it changed. In the past gay marriage and any other marriage that isn’t man and woman has been illegal and everything has thought it is very wrong to do. But now in 2019 gay marriage has been legalised in Australia and many other countries. In the past no one would have ever thought this would have happened, but media and the way society live has changed everyone’s views on what the ethics of sexuality really are. The biblical view on marriage is a little different to societies view but isn’t extremely off. God doesn’t say same sex marriage is a sin. He just says you may be pulled into temptation. This is because a man or woman can not help the urge to like the same gender. God created everyone differently and he does not say same sex marriage is a sin he just says it is a temptation and may not be always right to do. But then again, some verses to say that sex is a sin. There are a few different views in the bible, but overall same sex marriage is not right.

First sexual intercourse and marriage now a person’s physical sex/gender. Over time there used to be only be males or females but recently there has been a big change. Before social media made transgenders and other genders a big thing, it wasn’t a big thing. You didn’t walk around and see transgenders or people claiming to be other genders then female and male. Society and media have changed the views on so many people the actual impact it had on the population is crazy. Over the past 10 years other genders/transgenders have came out by 45%. Now some people may say its because people noticed them that’s why they finally came out, but some studies have shown that due to media, societies views on this have changed rapidly. The biblical view of transgenderism is very different to societies view. Although the bible does not say you cannot transform from male to female it does have a lot of other things to say about the topic. First, in the bible it does not have any other gender categories other then male and female so that is 100% against any other genders that exist today in society. Through the bible a man and a female were the first humans on earth. They were not any other genders only male and female. There is no transgenderism in the bible and therefore is wrong. People can be smart enough to understand what is right and wrong biblically.

Through this essay I have gone over societies and the biblical views on sex, marriage and gender. Society has changed a lot over the years therefore how will you know what is technically ethical. But the biblical views on everything to do with sexuality has stayed the same for so many years and people that a strong Christians or believe in the church have not changed their views on this topic. I personally think ethics wise the Christian church is right purely for the fact that the bible does not change its opinion on sexuality every year, but society does. Who knows what society will think about sexuality in another 100 years?
