The strongest action for a woman is to speak up and face her fears amongst those who never believed she could. Authors like Audre Lordes and Andre Perry emphasize how important is it for women to take a stand and fight for their voices to be heard. In the “The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action” Lordes establishes inspiration for women who are afraid to turn their silence and fear into language and action, by informing women that when they speak up and share their stories is causes a chain reaction for other women to speak up and not be afraid to face their fears. In Values: Living By A Love Ethic by Bell Hooks emphasizes that women can all change their mind and actions. She tells us that women must collectively face their fears and have courage to make necessary changes in society. Both authors strongly agree that women must project their voices in order to have equal justice and respect in society. Women for centuries have had to fight to have their voice heard and prove to society that they can achieve their aspirations; a woman using her voice is what makes a strong woman. Hence, women today should continue to use their voice to empower women.
In the “The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action” Andre Lordre voices that women must share and speak about what they believe in, even if we are afraid to. She believes by speaking up, women can connect with women who have a similar vision for the world, and work with them, regardless of the differences they may have. She states that “Your silence will not protect you”, this quote clearly shows the reader how important she think it is for women to speak up and be heard in society, throughout the text she informs us that it's essential to not remain quiet because the only thing that could hurt you is your silence. She writes that women remain silent about the truth and their desire for justice because they live in fear, however silences is the only thing that is damaging women, meanly and physically. Speaking out creates visibility for women stories, lives, and experiences without other seeing who we truly are, how do we exist? She argues that though women may fear pain, visibility, and judgement by speaking out, we are helping other women who aren’t able to speak up for themselves. Silence only makes the situation worse. In addition to women speaking out, she argues that women must support and uplift women voices, and seek connection within these stories. Lorde states “Where the words of women are crying to be heard, we must each of us recognize our responsibility to seek those words out, to read them and share them and examine them in their pertinence to our lives, there are so many silences to be broken”, This quote demonstrates the importance of women overcoming their fear and speaking up for themselves even they are judged in society, the only way women will continue to get hurt is if they remain silent. Throughout the text she informs us how important it is that women should overcome their fears by speaking up for themselves, speaking up is the only way they could earn respect. The author explains that silence will not prevent you from getting hurt by stating the effect that silence has, it will have a huge toll on one’s body and mind. Lorde's purpose is to inform women that if you live your life in silence, then you will not experience how to truly face your fears. She had a powerful voice and she was going to use it despite the the fear she may have had to make a difference in women’s lives around the world which supports my thesis that women for centuries have had to fight to have their voice heard and prove to society that they can achieve their aspirations; therefore a woman using her voice is what makes a strong women.
In Values: Living By A Love Ethic by Bell Hooks she voices how important is for women to have courage. She states “ To live our lives based on the principles of a love ethic(showing care, respect, knowledge, integrity and the will to cooperate), we women have to be courageous. This quote shows how she believe these factors is what empowers a woman. I strongly believe a woman having these traits and being able to speak for up for themselves is makes a strong woman.
