A popular quote says that “It is never too late to follow your dreams and passion” and thus, as unconventional as it seems, my call to pursue a course extremely different from my foregoing area of study feels liberating. From working as a dentist to applying for MSc in Management Practice, it has been a challenging decision. My main inspiration, other than my desire to push my limits is Dr. Seunggun Lee. A former South Korean dentist who quit his job and founded a mobile payments app called Toss. Growing beyond designated capabilities was a challenge he outgrew. He managed to reinforce a belief in people like me that it is okay to expect more from life.
After having completed my under graduate studies in the field of Dentistry from Vidarbha Youth Welfare Society’s Dental College and Hospital in 2016, I joined Dr. Swapnil Korde’s dental clinic where I worked as a general dentist for a period of 13 months. There, my professional role was limited to carrying out dental procedures and minor surgeries, and I found my desires to build additional skills being obstructed by the boundaries of my role. Even though I was doing exceptionally well and was appreciated for my work, I felt the need to outgrow myself and push the fortification. I further developed my skills while working in a clinic, where I counseled patients, planned educational promotional events and carried out administrative work. It was during this phase when I recognized my interestedness in the field of management.
Me being a very organized person, I have always felt this pull to work in an environment that promotes me to give expression to my skills and interests. Right from my school days, I am always been implicated with extracurricular activities, chipped in several art competitions and helped put together events such as the annual school fests, etc. At college, as an active member of the cultural and art committees I enjoyed systematizing cultural events and publicizing them through social media, posters, music, videos, etc. Working in a busy clinic enlightened me about the significance and intricacies of management. From keeping tab of the patient database, looking after the equipment and material requirement to managing the staff, it was all very challenging yet thrilling at the same time. I think pursuing management is the missing puzzle to my quest. Today, I feel very proud that I am taking a step further into learning a lot more than expected out of this experience. I am keen on learning about leadership skills, about working with new people, getting to know about them not by their appearance or where they come from but by what they bring to the table and a lot more. I now see myself, where I can challenge ideologies, which were blindly followed in the past, simply because they had been handed down by the society and culture I had been brought up in. A considerable amount of interaction with people from differ backgrounds, different origins will be a revelation. The best part of this new role will be that any sort of boundaries would not limit my work. So, I promptly look up to opportunities that make me take a plunge in other departments of the organization field such as the management and marketing department and through this experience find the lure to study the field of Management Practice professionally.
My decision to pursue MSc Management Practice from Dublin Business School, a highly renowned college in Dublin is because I am a firm believer of the fact that if one must do something, one should rather do it well. The Irish education system being highly renowned all over the world was the obvious choice for pursuing a management degree. Other than the quality education that it provides, DBS has a good diverse student flow, which can introduce me to the various cultures present and help learn and grow. The boundless amenities that are granted, the highly eminent faculty and the fact that the college is located in the City Centre attracted me to this college. My experience says how crucial it is to lay bare oneself to out of ordinary medium to fully bloom. Dublin is the perfect place to get this sort of exposure as it attracts students from all over the world.
The accession to work in Ireland for a period of 2 years after completing study, offers me the chance to practice what has been learnt. The sole intent of exposing oneself to a multinational environment will be a waste if the opportunity to implement the learning by working in such a locale was not there. In addition, without a doubt the historic brilliance of the place and the exposure to art and rich culture would add tremendously to my personal evolution.
There are tons of opportunities out there in the world, but there must be an equal match of skills, knowledge and experience, for a person to put them to the best use. Dublin Business School offers great opportunity for professional and personal growth. After having interacted with people who shared a similar course in their career, knowing about their experience living in Ireland, I am undoubtedly confident of my decision and keenly waiting to have an incredible times, which I believe could amount to a once in a lifetime adventure. This experience and knowledge gained will help me contribute the best of my abilities to a developing and growing economy and steer changes wherever essential in India, my home.
