My Interest in MBA Programs

I am writing this statement of purpose in support of my application for admission to MBA program at University Canada West. I have chosen Canada for my study destination for many reasons including reasonable living and education costs (in comparison with other English speaking countries), the multicultural and welcoming nature of Canada's society, and presence of great universities in MBA study filed in Canada. Apart from that I have some family members and friends living there. The reason I have selected University Canada West as my university of choice is that my friends who are living in Canada have highly recommended this institution and reported positive experience with this university. Also, University Canada West has good ranking amongst BC universities in the areas of overall educational experience, enriching educational experience and active and collaborative learning.

I had previously chosen Industrial Engineering field for my bachelors’ studies, because I like to solve puzzles, to get involved in brainstorming sessions, prosecute unyielding problems and in the end, I want to create things that thousands of people are going to use and love. Things which assist them- knowingly or unknowingly, and it will be an honor for me to be involved in the creation of such new intellectual development.

I was elected as the Head of Industrial Association of South-Tehran Azad University during 2009-2014, and I performed at a number of prestigious venues around the city. Ever since I attended the first industrial visit during my sophomore year of engineering, I have nurtured a dream of becoming a part of the top-level management team of a firm.

As a part of my work experience I have gained knowledge in the following fields:

• Recruiting new members for associations
• Finding students' job for high potential students
• Running educational classes to teach students to use related computer software
• Hosting conferences and scientific-presentation events evaluating supplier performance
• Running cultural events
• Arranging tours of industrial factories for new students to show them real work areas and giving them opportunity to find places to work
• Managing contracts and agreements with suppliers
• Establishing a weekly journal to introduce new technologies which are used in today's factories or workshops

My strong desire to study in MBA field, stems from my experience when I was in university studying industrial engineering. Back then our university held a meeting between all university’s major fields to introduce students to other fields of study in a collaborative and integrative approach. It was through that venue that I participated in MBA classes and learned more about subjects in management and business development and expansion. I found my brief exposure to the field of MBA very rewarding, and developed a passion to pursue this field further through a well-structured program like the one offered at University Canada West.

After finishing university, I managed to get a job offer in the marketing department of a company. During interview I was told I have good potential in this field. They told me that I could even be a manager one day if I tried hard and put effort in it. After a few years in marketing department and working as supervisor I was promoted to management position at our department. I really believe with formal education in the field of MBA, there will be higher positions which I can achieve.

Studying for an MBA requires a certain determination and strength of character. In recent years, the business world has become rapidly integrated across once restricting borders, and anyone with high goals in the business world must have an international perspective and be aware of the realities of different international arenas. I believe it can help me by providing business insight and proper knowledge, skills and experience to pursue my dreams and utilize the opportunities to the fullest extent.

In my country MBA is almost a brand-new field therefore the universities which offer this degree don’t have the finest standard methods and they are below average in comparison with the global programs in this field. I look forward to gaining the knowledge and skills in courses, such as Financial Management, Change Management, Human Interfaces, Leadership and Decision Making, Strategic Management while keeping up with the developments in the field of technology. It’s a crystal-clear fact that even the best universities of Iran unfortunately do not rank well in this field when compared worldwide. On the other hands, I believe learning MBA in another language and a new environment will improve my way of thinking and help me with understanding new aspects of business.

My plan is to return to my home country after finishing my studies. In addition to family ties that bring me back to Iran, and a sense of responsibility to be able to support them both in person and financially, I also envision to take the education and experience I will gain in Canada back to Iran to develop and expand successful international business models.

Having two years of relevant experience in the field of procurement in Supply Chain Management, the power of knowledge seems to call me out persuading me to seek more. The dream I nurtured during my graduation has grown with me, and I would be delighted to study Master of Business Administration at your esteemed University.
