Imagine how far a telescope can see, what it can see, and how it can see. A telescope all of the planets in the Milky Way galaxy. Most telescopes can see 3 billion light years into the Andromeda galaxy. A telescope can see that far because it uses two mirrors to reflect gamma rays. This helps the telescope produce a clear picture of space. Telescopes are likely to be the most important tool used by astronomists.
The telescope came from the microscope that made things appear closer. Nagel notes “ The telescope is an instrument that gathers light or some other form of electromagnetic radiation (from radio waves to gamma rays emitted by distant sources)” (1869-1875).Then someone (It has not been figured out specifically) thought what if we could make things farther away appear closer. Hans Lippershey (1570-1619) was specified to have made the telescope by accident while he was experimenting with mirrors. Another theory is that an apprentice was messing with lenses for a microscope (By accident) that you could see things from a far with lenses together. So his master tried to make the distance perfect and he figured out how to make the telescope. There was a third and final theory which was that Galileo heard of Lippershey’s telescope and wanted to reinvent it which he did do.
There are many different types of telescopes and here is a few. Telescope by Britannica states “The first and most familiar type however, is the optical telescope, which provides a detailed magnified image using light in visible part of the spectrum.” In a refractor telescope light from a far away thing comes in at the top of the telescope through a lens that is called the objective lens. These telescopes usually used to see the moon, Jupiter, mars and binary stars. Closely related to the refractor telescope this telescope is called the reflecting telescope. This telescope both short and long wavelength spectrums of ultraviolet and infrared. Another telescope called the radio telescope. The radio telescope can pick up radio waves from stars, galaxies, quasars, etc. A solar telescope is used to see sun spots or take pictures of the sun's outer layer. Telescope on Britannica notes,” Neutrons are tiny elusive subatomic particles emitted in vast numbers from the core stars, especially the collapsing cores of exploding stars (supernovas).”
Britannica states in the article telescope, ”There are basic “powers” or advantages over the human vision-that the telescope provides magnification resolving power, and light gathering power.” Telescopes have had many major over past hundreds of years. John Draper took pictures of the moon with daguerreotype process as early as 1840. Another major play the telescope had in astronomy is when the “United Kingdom Science Research Council” made the Schmidt telescope that can be used for taking pictures of large areas of space. Finally in 1659 Christian Huygens found out the nature of Saturn's rings.
Telescopes can see extremely far and help astronomers learn more about space than with any other instrument. There are many different important types of telescopes that all have important jobs. Astronomers have used the telescope to figure out major algorithms in space. In conclusion the telescope is the most important tool astronomers have ever used.
