Paradox is an apparently ridiculous or opposing explanation or recommendation which when researched may end up being all around established or genuine. So the differences of cultural paradox between two cultures are radically different from each other. Culture determines the way we live, the food that we consume in our everyday life and the languages that we speak. For example, Asian paradox of people mainly likes to eat rice and how do they remain yet so thin, It is because that our culture are seemed to be more actively exercising. While in other country culture like United States people there does treat moving frequently at a slow pace compared to Asian country.
The presenter had highlighted on the expression of culture means their language, symbol and identity which referring to traditional communities or indigenous people. I have found out Gesture refers to the of means nonverbal communication, when you’re not speaking but you’re giving out a sign or a movement from your palm or the body which has some meaning inside it. It could be an intention or showing emotions to another person. For example, like in USA the “horn fingers” shows a sign that means a sign of approval and mostly used by rockers but in Italy it means someone is to tell them that their spouse is cheating on them.
Lastly, there are 3 types of paradox cultures that are indulgence vs restraint, individual vs collectivism and Masculinity vs Femininity. Indulgence cultures put more significance on the right to speak freely and individual control while in limited societies there is greater sense of helplessness about personal destiny. For example, in the USA culture they are more willing to show their happiness with a smile towards their customer, but in Russia culture this would seem inappropriate to show a sign of happiness.
Individualism is the idea that one individual has the right to make his own judgment as he see fit and to keep and use the product of his effort. Collectivism means a political belief that belongs to a group or society. For example, Australia are more towards individualism as they only look after themselves and their family only which do not care about other races. But in Japan is more toward collectivism as they aren’t judgmental and took care of every race in their country. Lastly, Masculinity remains for a general public in which social sexual orientation jobs are plainly unmistakable: Men assumed are self-assured, intense, and concentrated on material achievement; ladies gathered be more humble, delicate, and worried about the personal satisfaction.
A cultural paradox is characterized as a group circumstances characterize social remedies. Paradox can also be a statement that seems contradictory but is actually true. Example of statements is like “you can save money by spending it”.
Cultural paradoxes examples are like Malaysia considers Singapore as part of their country but Singapore don’t consider them as part of the country. Another example would be China considers Hong Kongers as Chinese but Hong Kongers don’t consider themselves as Chinese. Cultural paradoxes happen in many countries like for example the Filipinos and Indonesian looks exactly the same and their accent, this is why they are more likely to be mistakenly identified. Paradoxes in global marketing, in a few countries one has the privilege for something that in different countries is inferred in the capacities or the individual.
