The Biography of Jacques-yves Cousteau

Jacques Cousteau was a famous scientist his full name was Jacques-Yves Cousteau .Jacques was born in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, France on June eleventh of nineteen ten and Cousteau died of a heart attack on twenty fifth June nineteen ninety seven in Paris, two weeks after his 87th birthday. Jacques was mainly an oceanographer, marine biologist, and a botanist. Jacques had one brother named Pierre-Antoine Cousteau Pierre was the youngest of the two sons born to Daniel and Elizabeth Cousteau. At the young age of four Cousteau learned to swim this is when his life lasting fascination with water began. At age thirteen Cousteau was sent to boarding school in Alsace, France after he finished his schooling there he attended Collège Stanislas in Paris. In nineteen thirty Cousteau entered the French Naval Academy in Brest, France.

During World War II, when Paris fell to the Nazis, Jacques Cousteau and his family took shelter in a small town near the Swiss border that is called Megreve. In nineteen thirty three Jacques was in a major automobile accident that nearly took his life. During his recovery he began to swim in the Mediterranean Sea every day. A friend gave Cousteau a pair of swimming goggles they gave him access to the mysteries of the sea and this began his mission to understanding the underwater world. Two things I bet you didn't know about this scientists are that he originally wanted to fly and that Jaques had a secret family. Yes, a secret family.

In nineteen thirty seven Cousteau married Simone Melchior she went along on expeditions and even sold her family jewels to help buy fuel for the ship. One year after Simone's death from cancer the surprising news came out that he had been having an affair with Francine Triplet, who was more than 30 years younger. Cousteau also announced he had two children from the affair later he married Triplet. Jacques is most known for his invention of diving devices and scuba devices such as the Aqua-Lung. The Aqua-Lung is the first invention of underwater scuba gear. Without Jacques Cousteau the underwater world would still be a mystery today. Jacques once said “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” He also stated “When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself.” The Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve, at Mullica River and Great Bay, is the only reserve in the national system to be named after an individual.
