Introduction

This reflection report will discuss about the details such as background, objective and design of the event, JOG FOR HOPE 2016. I also will shared about the reason why i participated this event and why this event be my personal reflection’s topic.

Event that I participated before was 10km distances of Jogathon which name JOG FOR HOPE 2016 (Figure 1) which held on 14 August 2016 (Sunday) at Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas. The number of participants was around 1,786 and this type of the event which under the categories of Fund raising Event.

Reasons that I participated this type of event was it can helps other people who needs help from us. Next, I am interested participated in this type of sport event or Fundraising event because it not only can helps others when their are facing problems and also can workout to enhance body health. After I participated this event, all participants were received a free Goodies beg and a paper of Certificate of JOG FOR HOPRE 2016(Figure 2).

The reason that I chose this event as my personal reflection’s topic because it gave me a lot of impression then first time I participated Jogathon. The first time Jogathon that I participated was the Jogathon Warisan on 20th April 2014 held on Kwong Tung Cemetery Office. In addition to this two Jogathon, I also had participated other type event of Jogathon, example like Social/Life-cycle Event, Jogathon Warisan on 17th April 2016 which held on Kwong Tung Cemetery Office and fund raising Event, Jogathon for School Found 96th on 19th April 2015 which held on Chong Hwa Independent High School.

The idea of organizing this Jogathon came about after the Tree Huggers Club(Figure 2) of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas (TCSH) had a visit to Spastic Children Association of Selangor & Federal Territory (SCASFT). After seeing the poor condition of the 50 years old building, a discussion with the club was held. It was agreed that a Jogathon should be held to help raise funds for the redevelopment program of SCASFT, instead of collecting funds from the public (Jog For Hope 2016, 2018).

Started in 2009, Taylor’s College Jog For Hope is an annual charity jogathon founded by the Tree Huggers Club involving pre-university students of Taylor’s College. The first event of JOG FOR HOPE was organized in 2009 which fully handled by student of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas. It was the 8th edition of this event and its organizing committee comprised 42 students, supported by staff members of the college.

This event had separated into three distances, there were 3km for Fun Run (Figure 4), 6km for Turbo Run (Figure 5) and 10km for Resilience Run (Figure 6). Participation fees for every participants were divided into four categories which included RM35 for schoolchildren, RM45 for tertiary students, RM55 for all other participants, and RM 450 for a corporate group which can have 10 participants (Taylor's College, 2018). Sponsors of this event included Zalora, SPORT DICRECT.COM, KOTEX, BERJAYA TIMES SUARE THEME PARK, HUAWEI, MAMEE, INDOCAFE and more (Jog For Hope 2016, 2018). Location of having this event was located at Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas, a branch campus of Taylor's College set up since 2008.

Next, this type of event considered as Fundraising Events which an event created by or for a charitable or cause-related group for the purpose of attracting revenue, support, and/or awareness, scheduled alone or in conjunction with other events.

Event Objective

The main objective of this event was raised funds for charitable organizations and societies so that they are able to continue carrying out their purpose and help the communities. For this event, funds that obtained through participants’ donated to communities that need helps. The beneficiaries of this year were Kirtarsh Handicapped and Disabled Children's Home, Special Children Society of Ampang and Sweet Care Welfare Society. The Kirtash Handicapped and Disabled Children’s Home in Rawang is a place for disabled , underprivileged childrens , adults and old folks. The Sweet Care Home in Selayang and the Special Children Society in Ampang is a non-profit organisation that provides special care and education for children with physical, developmental and learning disabilities including Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, prader-willi, delayed and slow learners. Each was received a donation of RM23,000 (Taylor's College, 2018).

Foundations of Event Design has separate into three aspects, there are setting, management and people. Settings included elements of location, design and sense of place. Management included elements of systems, programme and services. People included elements of staff, volunteers, guests or participants.

Theme of this event was JOG FOR HOPE and it means participants can donated the funds through the event to help others and it as a charity event or Fundraising Event to helps children with learning difficulties. The size of this Jogathon event was Minor Event which event that happened in local or communities events. Minor Event will attracting small group of targeted audience which can enhanced local interest and learned possible tradition. In other hand, Minor Event can known as festival or annual events. Students of Taylor’s College was not so focused on the lighting part because the event was during the morning period around 7am and the event was held outside of the College. But the lighting that they used was floodlight which illuminate a wide area and produce a much more circulate light while produce a much more circulate light such as work light. The most focused things in this event was on the music part. They played the song to enhanced the atmosphere of the event which can encourage participants continue towards and welcome them back from the jogathon at the ending point.

From the aspects of settings, the location of this event was located at Taylor's College Sri Hartamas, 62, Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Sri Hartamas,, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was quite convenience for those participants. Because every years the event was held at the same location that outside of the Taylor’s College. It caused participants easier to found the place and they can go there by sharing car with friends or by taking grab car. For example, I am the one who sharing car with my friend go together the place for participated the event. Next, the design of this event was quite different with others jogathon event. The reason that why I said like that because this jogathon had few volunteers included students of Taylor’s College will stand at few specific point or distances for giving participants different colour of ribbens sch as green colour and yellow colour to show that they were pass through the specific point or distances. For example, 10km distance route total had three checkpoint for those participants who participate 10km distance during the Jogathon.

From the aspects of management, the arrangement of the programme of this event was quite smooth because they started prepared since the April 2018 and the work flow was cleared to all participants. For example, participants knew that when to check in, where to meet up and the route distance of the Jogathon. Next, the services of this event was quite good. The reason of it was they had found Nestle Milo sponsored Milo drinks and coco crunch for participants when they was finished the Jogathon. Participants having some Milo and coco crunch can increase the energy after Jogathon.

From the aspects of people, the total number of participants in this event was 1786 and consisted of students, their parents, staff and members of the public of all ages and walks of life united for a worthy cause. But most of the participants of this event was teenagers. The staff or volunteers of this event during the year of 2016 included students of Taylor’s Sri Hartamas and staff member of that College.

Findings and Discussion

In this event, I considered that the satisfy things in this event had included few things. First, students of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas had teaches some simple exercises to led all participants doing some simple exercise before participated the jogathon. It was good for all the participants especially for those who were not exercise regular but still willing to participated it. The reason of having it because it will make your body have some workout before having some intense exercise such as long distance jogathon for examples like the distance of 6km or 10km. Second, students of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas also found some sponsors such as Nestle Milo to provide drinks and coco crunch for all participants after they finished the jogathon. Third, the venue of this event was located at Taylor's College Sri Hartamas, 62, Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Sri Hartamas,, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was quite convenience for those participants. Because every years that the event held at the same place and it held outside of the Taylor’s College that cause participants easier to found the place. Not only that, there also had the information signage for participants to knew where is the check in counter or the washroom.

Because of this few things, it gave good impression to all participants so that they feels appreciated and will participating the event again. Therefore, it will increasing the reputation of Taylor’s College and increase the number of participants to participate the event and indirectly cause increasing the amount of fundraising to help those communities that need help.

On the other hand, I found that the beneficiaries of this event were different during every years. For examples, the differences beneficiaries between the four years event such as year 2009, year 2015, year 2016 and year 2017. During the year of 2009 were the organization, Support for Parents, Infants and Children Through Early Services (SPICES) which an organization providing aid to children with development or learning disabilities and require special learning needs (Taylor's College, 2018) also during the year of 2015 the beneficiaries are Siddharthan Care Centre, a home for underprivileged children and senior citizens, and the Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram orphanage and during the year of 2016 were Kirtarsh Handicapped and Disabled Children's Home, Special Children Society of Ampang and Sweet Care Welfare Society and during the year of 2017 were Pusat Jagaan Cahaya Kasih Bestari, Praise Emmanuel Children's Home and Cornerstone Orphanage Home.

Although Taylor’s College had helped differences organization or communities, but they just focusing on only one aim--willingness to help them for better quality of living and education level. It make the communities received helps from the public can get more support to overcome the problems and decrease their burden.

The problem of this event was the insufficient of parking slot on that day. Because the event was held outside the College and beside the road so that the parking slot became limited for large number of participants. It caused most of the participants had to parked their car at another side of building or opposite the road side of College. Some of the participants who had experienced on it, they came earlier and parked at a place that near the College. The recommendation on it, they should prepared more parking slots that learned from others Jogathon event such as Jogathon Warisan because Jogathon Warisan had prepared a lot of the parking slots to all the participants.

Conclusion

In conclusion, event that I participated was gave me a lot of positive impression because it can provides helps to those communities that need help to overcome their difficult and we can have workout for our body health. Although JOG FOR HOPE conducted many satisfy things to participants, but it also conducted problem to participants. By increasing the number of participants or volunteers years by years. Not only JOG FOR HOPE as a Fundraising Event, RUN FOR HOPE or Marathon also as Fundraising Event.
