Creativity is a very important aspect in both the private and public sectors since it perpetuates change, competitiveness and efficiency of operations. It is an integral resource that brings many advantages to an organization. Creativity is however influenced by certain factors such as leadership and the empowerment of employees. This essay will look at the impact of creativity in public administration and federal workers abased on FEVS survey. This essay will evaluate the impacts of leadership strategies on creativity and the same time establishes how empowerment of employees fosters creativity in public administration.
The authors of the FEVS survey finding are very vocal on the importance of integrating federal workers in the planning process as well as administration of various sectors. This allows for brainstorming of ideas that may help enhance the productivity of some departments and at the same time cut on costs. The authors further state that there is need to engage many employees while designing the national budget. This is because consideration allows the designers to include the things of value and those of urgency hence cutting on costs that would have been spent on other things. Creativity is not always determined by the academic qualifications of an individual which is why there is need to include even the averagely educated staff while making federal decisions (Min, Ugaddan, & Park, 2016).
It is important to note that creativity is one aspect that determines the growth and development of various federal departments. For that reason it is imperative that managers and department heads keep motivating their employees to perform their tasks creatively and efficiently. Leadership strategies have a direct impact on the creativity of employees and the operations within a particular department (Min, Ugaddan, & Park, 2016). There would be no need to hire managers and other department heads if leadership did not have an impact on the performance of individual employees in an organization. Leadership is a critical factor that affects the creativity of the employees. There are different management and leadership strategies which achieve different results depending on how they are practiced. Arrogant leaders who persistently berate their employees do a lot of damage to the employees which translate to demotivated employees who cannot perform their tasks creatively. On the other hand there are leaders who are pacesetters. They continually suggest new strategies to their employees and motivate them when they achieve the perceived results.
Motivated employees carry a positive attitude to work that enable them to be creative in the way they handle their tasks. This results to increased productivity of the departments and organization. a healthy workforce therefore stand a better chance of becoming more creative compared to workers who operate in an organization with authoritative and oppressive leaders (Min, Ugaddan, & Park, 2016). The public sector is especially encountered by the challenge of bossy leaders who continually humiliate their employees. It has been established that most leaders in the public sector do that in order to gain respect from their subordinates and at the same time safeguard their positions. It is unfortunate that most of the leaders do not realize that aggressive management ultimately yields negative results such as demotivation, hatred and high turnover rates in the organization. All these negative results are enemies of creativity hence the organization eventually becomes inefficient, uncompetitive and may fail to deliver the public’s expectations. There are managers who have a tendency of inhibiting employees who have impressive style just because their style does not go by what the manager’s style is. Employees with creative styles would be allowed to practice them and where applicable the company should adopt the style if it is effective. By so doing, employees get challenge to keep on developing new strategies which at the long run improve the operations of the organization.
Another aspect that greatly influences the creativity of employees is empowerment. Empowerment gives the federal works a sense of ownership and belonging hence they get challenged to help in the improvement of service delivery. Empowerment of employees also plays a major role toward job satisfaction, motivation, efficiency and creativity. Managers can greatly increase the efficiency and productivity of employees by engaging their decisions, opinions and strategies. Employees who are engaged keep on devising new style and strategies of performing tasks. When a large number of employees do the same, the organization progressively advances its operations and delivers its services effectively and efficiently (Min, Ugaddan, & Park, 2016).
Organizations that do not engage their employees have been noted to remain neutral and may eventually fall because of lack of innovativeness. Creativity is therefore important for sustenance and relevance of certain organizations. A creative tendency in the organization as said before is affected by various factors but so far it is clear that leadership strategies and employee engagement play a vital part in ensuring that the legacy continues. Managers and organizational leaders should ensure that their strategies allow and encourage creativity instead of inhibiting creative employees who stand a better chance of delivering the goals of the organization. Engagement is also a critical aspect that should be considered as it gives employees a sense of belonging and ownership that invokes and perpetuates creativity.
