No one can deny that gender affects our lives. It affects the way we think, the way we behave, the way we treat others and others treat us. Most of the society considered that females and males are different kinds of people and everyone should live based on that. And that’s what happened, according to Costa Jr, Terracciano, & McCrae “Females reported themselves to be higher in Neuroticism, Agreeableness, warmth, and Openness to Feelings, whereas men were higher in Assertiveness and Openness to Ideas”. What we can conclude from that is, our societies let us see ourselves on that way. To be more specific, when I said society I meant our family, friends, colleagues, and everyone we live with in a particular community.
Family plays an important role in the child’s life, from even the moment they know its gender. They start making assumptions that he/she has to follow, these assumptions change based on its gender. For example, in Indie there is a clear discrimination between each gender, and that starts from even the child born. If it is a boy, congratulations begin, celebrations held and everyone waiting for his birth with joy. In contrast, if it is a girl, they killed her and if she survives and could see the light of day they killed her as an infant. In addition, they found that there are more than 45 hundred thousand female got married before they complete 15 years old and 70% of them have two children.
On the other hand, the minimum age of getting married in Kuwait is 15 for female and 17 for males. Gender determines a lot of things in our lives. One of these things is our beliefs on ourselves and abilities. For example, it’s popular that woman good at cooking and man good at woodworking, and because of that you will find that the most gender in cooking and woodworking class will be as what common. Also, our society constrains each gender in a certain field, it could give or takes from us a lot of opportunities. The biggest proof of that is before 1960 there wasn’t formal education for female in Saudi Arabia, and even when they started with educating females, the courses were different compared with male courses, and that because they thought that female will couldn’t succeeded with males courses. Another example is, until now female couldn’t be a lawyer or an engineer in Saudi Arabia, while male could be whatever they wants. In Kuwait, both female and male could be lawyer and engineer. Also, as the figure show in general woman are underrepresented politically.
