Teenage is one of the most dynamic yet the most critical stage of human development which is accompanied by a whole load of overwhelming changes in all aspects of one’s life. These array of alterations like puberty, the rush of hormones, and sense of independence, are difficult and overwhelming to deal with, not only for the teenager but also for the parents and significant others. Why teenage is difficult?Specifically, in this digital era, where the teen age is highly dramatized and sensationalized, the little beings entering into this stage expect a lot. This period is both of discovery and bewilderment. The physical and emotional growth spurt can lead to confusion and the teenagers may act out in strange ways to cope with such changes. They may also experience personality issues like low self-esteem, role confusion, sexual frustrations and much more. Differentiating healthy and unhealthy behavioral patterns. Almost all teens act out in one way or another, but the important thing for parents and caregivers is to differentiate between the healthy and unhealthy behavioral patterns. Some parents and guardians may freak out on behavioral changes while some totally ignore the clear cut signs of serious issues. So, the first thing is to be vigilant in an unobtrusive way. Let them spread their wings but also be ready if their flights become wary. Most of the teenagers experience issues at a school like bullying or academic problems. Some may go through heart breaks, betrayal and identity issues that may lead to depression, anxiety, eating/body image related disorders, and substance abuse. When to seek professional help (counselling/therapy)?Minor issues like bullying or betrayal if not spotted early, can lead to major physical and psychological issues. So, if any bothersome behavior is suspected, the best way to approach the issue is to have a dialogue. But the thing is that teenagers are not much eloquent with their parents. They are little adults with big egos and sometimes, parents’ concerns can actually worsen the circumstances.

In such case, seeking a professional help is the wisest decision to make. So, it is important to seek therapy for teenagers when they behavior worries you so that the bud can be nip at its earliest. Importance of seeking therapy for teens going through a hard time There is no need to wait for a disaster to go to a therapist. Whenever life becomes difficult and things become overwhelming, a fresh and refined outlook can absolve the issue. Sometimes the unbiased and nonjudgmental perspective from a third person can clear the situation way better than talking with a loved one. Teens can discuss their issues, concerns, and anxieties without any fear of judgment. It anything is wrong, it can be treated at its earliest with good prognosis. And if everything is alright, the confusion will be resolved. Also, the parents’ apprehensions can be addressed by the therapist. They can discuss their worries with the therapist and get to know if their teenager’s behavior is normal or unhealthy. They can get guidance and tips for building a healthy and trustworthy relationship with their teen and also how to be an example for their teens. So getting into therapy is important not only for the teenagers with issues but also for the parents. It can resolve the confusions, dissolve the apprehensions and can detect upcoming issues and problems.
