Every day you wake up with this feeling that you are going to die. Sometimes you do not even have the fear of this happening. Feeling as if go is letting you go. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel he takes his reader to a place in time that they would not ever want to travel too. This place is the Holocaust. Wiesel gives you a clear picture of their hardship in the Holocaust. He spent most of his time in Auschwitz, then in Buchenwald. They were faced with many problems and felt as if god did not want to help them. When faced with devastating experiences Jews tend to lose their faith in god, even when they try to maintain their faith for him.
In the book ‘Night’ Elie Wiesel shows lost of his faith in the justice of god as well as his greatness and goodness. Though his experience of the concentration camp and the horrors of it, Wiesel lost his faith in him. He was so devastated by the gas chambers, the hang until they felt apart of himself and others dying, and the crematories he explained “never shall I forget those moments that murdered by my go and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes.” Innocent Jews tortured in the most nastiest was people could not have thought of. He started to believe others more than god “His cold eyes stared at me. At least he said wearily: ‘I have more faith in Hitler then in anyone else. He alone has kept his promises, all his promises: to the Jewish people.” They felt as if god is punishing them so he would not help him. He struggles physically and mentally for life and no longer believe there is a god.
Elie Wiesel and the Jews tried to maintain their faith in god. They wanted god to help them through devastating experiences. They want god to give them the strength to ask him questions “I prayed to the god within me that he will give me the strength to ask him the right questions”. In the beginning of the book Night Wiesel had a great amount of faith, but was a lot in the concentration camp. His faith was tested many times, one of the tested was when young boy, innocent Piple was hung, “Being me i heard the same man asking: “For god sake where is god?” and from within me I heard a voice answering “where is he?”. This left Wiesel with a lot lease faith in god, expectantly when the little boy was slowly dying in front of him. He tries to maintain his faith in god but it just did not work out for him.
As seen from the essay, when the Jews and Wiesel are faced with devastating experience Jews tend to lose their faith in god, even when they try to maintain their faith for him. To survive people start losing their identities and started doing anything they could even acting like animals because God would not help them. Most importantly, this very religious group of people began to lose faith in something they thought they never would: god. This shows how horrible the Nazi were. During these times it was hard to keep the faith but looked like it could have been successful.
