In the story All Summer In a Day, for almost seven years Margot and her classmates haven’t seen one day with sunshine and clear sky’s. They’ve only seen thunderstorms, big gloomy dark clouds, but most of all just a bunch of rain. Finally just what Margot and her classmates had been wishing and waiting for the sun comes out for a short amount of time. Unfortunately, Margot misses out on the first sunshine in seven years because she was locked in a closet. This story really shows that people shouldn’t treat themselves than any differently than they would treat your self.
Margot and her classmates live in an underground tunnel on Venus. When they spot the sun they are at school. The author ties in this setting with the thesis because Margot gets locked in a classroom closet by her classmates. All of them pushing and yelling horrible things at her. They all told her that the sun coming out today was a joke, letting her hopes down. That led Margot missing out on the first sunshine in seven years, just like she had said.
The characters in the story don’t treat Margot like she deserves to be treated. Her classmates new she was really looking forward to seeing the sun. That shows her classmates are self centered and have a lot of anger towards her. I’m sure after they realized that hey had left Margot in the closet they must have really guiltily and ashamed of themselves.
The dialogue shows that the kids in her class do treat Margot very harshly. While Margot was trying to explain what suppose to happen that day a boy yelled, “It’s all a joke!”. “They all hated her pale snow face, her waiting silence, her thinness, and her possible future.” Says the author. Another boy shouted, “You won’t see nothing!” “All a joke! Hey everyone lets put her in a closet before the teacher comes!”
I think this story sent a good message but was also entreating. It also left me thinking if Margot and her classmates will have to wait another seven years for the sun to appear again. It made me have a lot of sympathy for Margot because of her classmate’s ignorance and rudeness towards her. People nowadays really need to think on how one tiny action or mistake can really effect someone and from Margot just being locked in the closet as a joke, it led to her missing out on something actually important to her.
