Respected audience, today I would like to speak on a topic that is quite simple yet very complex at the same time. We all dream when we are asleep and even when we are wide awake. So are these two dreams the same or is there any difference between the two. Is there any element of similarity between the two or are they linked in any way?
From one perspective, dreams can be seen as a goal that a person might have; the dream to achieve something or the dream to become a certain someone. These are characterized by how we are brought up and how we perceive life. To have a dream is to find the things that give meaning to life. Once a person can easily decipher his meaning of existence, then automatically the dreams are aimed towards achieving it. According to Ahmed, a person can set dreams based on the things that he believes are right and should be pursued. Sometimes, these dreams are also influenced by our surroundings i.e peer pressure, family pressure, and the observation of the elements lacking around us. All of these combine to provide meaning to the dream we might have. The dream to end poverty would be paired with the meaning to help others, likewise, a dream to be famous would be paired with the meaning to be special and stand out. Every individual is not the same and thus every dream would be different. It all revolves around how our mind works. It is our thought process that gives meaning to a dream. As no two minds are completely alike, therefore no two dreams would be alike. They may be alike in the overall goal but the path to the goal would be different.
On the other hand, there are dreams that we see during our sleep when we are in our subconscious. So, what are those? One might say that these are the reflections of things that we have seen and our mind tries to combine them during our sub-conscience period. Some might believe that these are an indication of the future. Whatever your age might be, there shall be dreams in your sleep, some which might motivate you and others which might induce feelings of stress. Many a time, people dream about the things that are on their mind at that particular moment. There are many facts still to be discovered about dreams but certain things have been uncovered like the statement that people tend to have more emotionally negative dreams as compared to the positive ones. Also, women tend to have different dreams as compared to males. Female dreams are less aggressive than those of males as described by Hall & Domhoff. We can only wait and watch to see what might be unveiled next.
So is there any correlation between the two kinds of dreams that have been discussed. Well, if you have a real-life dream to do something special, then obviously that thought would mostly be on your mind. It could induce the necessary elements in your subconscious to make you dream about what you are after. All in all, the true meaning of the dreams that are related to our goals is connected to our form. Why we have come to exist and what we have been taught in our lifetime? If these elements can be properly deciphered, then it would be easy to identify how one would give meaning to a dream.
