The Mexican and American war started on April 25, 1846. Mexico and America went to war for various reasons. I personally believe that the biggest reason the United States went to war with Mexico for Mexico’s Territory. In 1836 Texas gained Independence from Mexico. The United States denied to join into the union, mostly because the northern were against the addition of a new slave state and the south wanted more slave states. The United States annexation of Texas in 1845 and dispute over whether Texas ended at the Nueces River a Mexican claim or Rio Grande the U.S claim. Mexico threatened that any annexation or invasion would lead to war. The U.S invaded Mexico Territory’s in of north of Texas, west of present day California and east of Veracruz. Mexico gave the United States plenty of warning and the United States ignored them, that is why I think the United States and Mexico went to war.
The Mexican and American war was it justified. I believe the U.S was not justified because of Polk provoked, invasion of Texas and the increase of slavery in Texas. The Polk Provoked Mexico. The Polk Provoked had a strong believer of Manifest Destiny. He believed that God wanted to kick the Mexicans out and let the United States grow more and more. The Polk Provoked stole Texas from Mexico. The other reason why the U.S was unjustified in going to war with Mexico because of their invasion. The U.S stole Texas and were preparing to take California next. The last Reason I think they were unjustified is because The United states wanted slavery and more slave states meanwhile Mexico did not want to participate in slavery and did not want any slave states. These are the main reason I feel that the Mexican-American War was unjustified.
Why did the Mexican American war have a tremendous impact on the tension between the northern and southern stated during the pre-Civil war. The civil war was based on slavery. The South Confederate states wanted slavery and the north United States of America did not want slavery. Slavery vs no slavery. Mexico did not want slavery and Texas did, that was one of the many reason Texas wanted independence from Mexico. After The Mexican-American war, I feel like the Tension between the south states wanting slavery and the north not wanting slavery sparked and led to war. I feel that the Mexican American war kind of started that debate of should there be slavery. This is why I think the Mexican-American war had a tremendous impact on the pre-civil war era.
