Human beings have a deep connection and history with drug abuse as the result of using drugs for many centuries. The earliest original documented usage of narcotics dates back to 4, 000 B. C, around with medicinal marijuana being present in China around 2, 737 B. C., as the modern era flows the cases and incident of drug abuse and users got worst, one example is as of the year 2014, the users of heroin in the United States has an estimated of 180, 000 upwards.

Some people perceive victims of drug addiction as people who lack integrity, while some would already label them as what they are, addicts. Misconceptions often happen with issues concerning a person’s mental well-being, like drug addiction. In fact, addiction is more complex than how people see it.

It is a chronic brain disorder that involves disruptions in the brain activity, as well as the other functional organs and systems in the body. Because of various reasons, the first use of drugs may or may not be voluntary, but if the intake increases, brain alterations, which are caused by the repetitive consumption of drugs, can affect a person’s resistance over it, making it difficult for them to stop looking for more and more.

Victims of this disorder can get treated, although the chance of it coming back remains, which defines the term “relapse”. However, this illness should still not be taken lightly.

People are addicted to drugs because drugs are similar to cigarettes and alcohol, both having chemicals and components that generates the brain to answer to the rush and send signals and chemical throughout the body and it constantly becomes habituated to the drug intake, and when the person who abuses the drug tries to stop or pause the usage of drugs their body is triggered and weakened because it got used to chemicals and signal sent to the body. There is no one factor that can predict if a person will develop to be addicted to drugs. The more risk factors a person has, the greater the chance that taking drugs can lead to addiction.

Drugs doesn’t just affect our bodies and psychical health, it also affects us mentally and socially and set many changes into an ordinary and average person’s life.

The negative behaviors carry in a wide range that often adversely affect their loved ones. It can be difficult to be in a role of friend or family member of a person who is engaged with drug addiction. The thing is, due to the fact that most addicts are heavily steeped in denial, they are not aware of the full impact of their actions on themselves so they let it affect those they love. Consequently, it damages the ways they cope with the addict in the family as well as how family members interact with one another. People who are engaged with drug addiction may experience isolation, negative mindset as well as roles, they may expose other family members or worst they may lose relationships. Additionally, addiction greatly affects the finances, health and psychological wellbeing. Drug addiction may affect various aspect of human life. Although drugs regulate emotions and give a feeling of pleasure which causes an addict to be “high”, these damage the brain system. It can actually change how the brain performs and interfere with a person’s ability to make choices. It often leads to multitudes of behavioral problems such as paranoia, aggressiveness, hallucinations, loss of self-control, etc. Prolonged drug addiction interferes with every organ in the human body like damaged immune system, cardiovascular conditions, including heart attacks and collapsed veins, nausea, vomiting, liver failure, seizures and strokes. Global effects of drugs may result to death.

Some of the worst effects of drug addiction are not health related. It can have multiple damaging consequences on social and emotional well-being of the person engaged in this kind of problem. This includes loss of employment, financial trouble, accidents, risky sexual behavior incarceration caused by criminal activities and many more. Generally, the negative behaviors carry in wide range that often adversely affects their family. Using Drugs is one of the issue’s in the Philippines, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte the present leader of the country wanted to stop the usage of drugs and to lower the amount of drug users, and in his crusade he stated that drug dealing and drug craving were major problems and obstacles to the Philippines. After winning the election he claimed that he wanted to stop this major dilemma in the country, after becoming the president of the country, Rodrigo Roa Duterte started a war against drugs and this war resulted in the extrajudicial deaths which cost up to thousands of drug dealers and users within the country. Extrajudicial killing is executing a human being by the person like cops or by the individuals without the green light of any legal course of action. This war became the reason why usage of drugs and dealers drop within this year’s yet some countrymen dislike the war against users and dealers because of the E. J. K. that even innocent people got killed without valid proof and not being sanctioned.

Why is it hard to Quit drug addiction? For sure, being addicted to something is an average thing, specifically video games, TV shows or fandoms, but when it comes to drugs, it releases chemicals has more power than those I’ve recently spoke of. According to ‘National Institute of Drug Abuse’, our brain is viewed as a signal tower for our body and whenever we took drugs, the chemicals in our brain changes and this affects your choices, actions and even the way you feel. The part of the brain that makes you feel pleasure and sensation changes, normally the factors of activates that enables these pleasure signals are whenever you eat, sleep, fall in love or other things that makes you feel entertained. After a while, the drugs become more necessary and eliminate those other previous factors.

Over the flow of time some people who are vulnerable to drugs said using them just makes the sensation “normal”. ‘Tolerance’ is when the user’s brain and body adapted the effects of the drugs. Developing a tolerance to drugs, is when a regular dose doesn’t gave them the same rush and only makes them high on a short period of time, they will take more but never feel the same way because when the drug (specifically meth) find its way to the brain it finds less dopamine and the previous takes also has destroyed transporters thus, making all that over stimulation caused to withdraw. Some people even desperately changed the methods of using meth from snorting, smoking and even shooting it, due to tolerance and thought it was just an ordinary activity to do. That’s why rehabilitation centers are made and professionals are addressed to the drug users who want to make a change in their lives.
