The Negative Effect of Social Media on Individuals

Social media is something most kids, teens, and even some adults are using all the time. It has become a part of our generation’s lives. Having people on their phones all day long is not only disappointing, but also damaging. Instead of talking to someone face-to-face and hanging out, people prefer just texting or going on a social network. For some people understanding a life without social media is near impossible. Using social media can have some adverse effects such as: it causes cyberbullying, it can compromise education, and it could have an effect on social skills. This is a world of technology where at each and every step you would get trap if you do not have enough knowledge. There could be some way to protect younger generation from this vicious cycle of technology.

1. There should be one or two classes in a week in school about internet, social media. Which teach them what to search on internet, how to use internet effectively, how much time a person should spend on internet and many more knowledge that help them to understand internet.
2. There should be children teacher, children parents, parents teacher and children parents teacher meeting organize in school in one or two time in a month. So that a parents can know what is happening in his child life. Now seeing the technology advancement most of the meeting should be focus on technological use and social media impact.
3. Most children are addicted with youtube, facebook, whatsapp, instagram and many more social sites. They are spending a lot of their time in these sites. These sites are not bad but they should use it within a time limit and this limit can only be implemented by parents. Parents should took care of time limit.
4. There are also some sites which are creating a negativity among youth like blue whale game, violence videos, adult video. When a child watch these things he started to think that there are many things that he has not done so he wanted to do those things and this create a negative character inside him. To save children from these destructive site a parents should installed appblocker which block these sites.
5. A disturbing Canadian study shows that parents spend an average 3.5 minutes per week in meaningful conversation with their children. In many homes, the room with the television has become the dining room and family conversations have languished as a result of adults and children being glued to the big box, or its smaller hand-held versions.

In today’s digital era parents and society can play many role to help youngster. In this modern digital era many youth remain disturb or be in the state of depression. They are not having enough interaction within their family or society. Many parents do not have enough digital literacy therefore they are not able to guide their child in right direction. Parents should get digital literacy so that they can help them. Society should organize some games or a platform where social interaction should take place. In this way a youth would have a chance to come out from digital era.

Parents should play a role model for their child. Because children are great mimics, parents limit their own media use. In fact, they’ll be more available for and be connected with their children if they are interacting, hugging and playing with them rather than just simply staring at the screen. Trying to teach the right values to child can be tough but not impossible. When parents become a good role model to their children they will always appreciate them.

Media and digital devices are an integral part of today’s world. If used properly and for the right purpose they can help youth to gain infinite knowledge. As children spend the most of their time with their families it is important for the parents to teach them these values and help them understand how to rightly use these mediums. This becomes beneficial for both, parents as well as the children’s.
