The Othello’s Downfall and Its Causes

The downfall of Othello is a story by William ShakespeareIt would be clearer if the author specified that "The Downfall of Othello" is the name of the play, rather than just a description of what happens in the play.

Close Comments. The play begins with an argument which gives the readers a glimpse of all the fateful events that are about to take place. The technique of foreshadowing is used severally by the author in order to make the readers able to predict the bad luck ad the misfortunes that would be befalling the characters in the play. Iago is the sole character in the play who initiates most of the conflict between the characters which eventually lead to their downfall. To the characters, he is a gentleman and he is well respected although the readers are aware that he is not a good man. This, therefore, makes the characters fall easily to his traps as they believe that his advisers are the best. This facade makes it easy for Iago to manipulate the characters whereby unfortunately Othello fall a victim.

For the beginning, Iago hates Othello because of his promotion as the lieutenant in Othello. Instead of Othello accepting the promotion, he chose Cassio for the position which makes Iago more hurt thus planning a way to make them hate each otherThe sentence is a bit awkward. It might be clearer to say something like "Iago is hurt when Othello chooses Cassio for the promotion instead of him."

Close Comments. In order to see him aim being accomplished, Iago planned several tactics one of them is trying to convince Othello that his wife was cheating on him with Cassio. In this attempt, he tried to make Cassio believe that DesdemonaIn this sentence, "make Cassio believe" should be "make Othello believe."

Close Comments, Othello’s wife, was tempted by him and that she was trying to be more than just a friend. He was shocked when Cassio maintained that the two were just friend and that he did not believe what he said about her. However, Iago did not easily give up. He tried harder and used different tactics in order to ensure that Othello believed that the two had a relationship. After his skillful tactic, he managed to convince Othello that Cassio and Desdemona had a relationship. This made Othello angry and jealous thus seeking revenge whereby he planned to kill the both of them. Iago killed Cassio while Othello killed his wife Desdemona.

Othello’s jealousy, hunger, need for revenge and lack of trust led to his downfallThe phrase "hunger, need for revenge" seems a bit out of place. It might be better to say "jealousy, desire for revenge, and lack of trust."

He had a misconception of all what was happening and thus he easily jumped into conclusions. As a result, he says and does things that do not match with his personality. He becomes more difficult to control in his own actions and makes tries to seek revenge upon people who he believed wronged him. In his main attempt to revenge against his wife and Cassio, he ends up doing things that he later regrets as they lead to his downfallThe sentence feels a bit abrupt and could benefit from a bit more analysis or conclusion. For example, the author could tie back to the themes mentioned in the first paragraph and emphasize how they contribute to Othello's downfall.
