Imagine being pinned down against your will and sexually abused by a man that you have never met, but somehow this man owns you? That is what it feels like for the millions of women that fall victim to sex trafficking all over the world.
Sex trafficking is a massive problem not only in New Zealand but all over the world, thousands of innocent women and men are being taken, sold as slaves then sexually exploited by sick disturbing men. Most human trafficking victims are duped into the trade by false promises made regarding job opportunities. Once they are taken and enter their countries of trade, their passports are taken and with no money, no shelter, and no one to turn to they are left at the mercy of those who trade. Personally i feel like not enough is being done to stop human trafficking and it’s an issue that is becoming bigger and bigger every year, human trafficking needs to be stopped and it’s an issue that is truly horrifying, children all over the world are being stripped of their childhood, family, education and basically their whole lives, i think that its sick that more is not being done to stop human trafficking.
I think that the key to reducing the human trafficking issue in New Zealand is public awareness, schools need to start teaching children about the dangers of human trafficking and the dangers of the internet because it is a gateway to the human trafficking world also schools in New Zealand need to start teaching about it from a young age at school.
Once there was a girl called Tonya, she was a college dropout that got kicked out of home, with no one to turn to she found herself at the bar every night until she ran into a guy called Eddie, the two connected, Tonya went home with Eddie that night. She eventually moved in with Eddie and the two began a relationship. However, it was when the two were at a party filled with alcohol and drugs that the relationship took a turn. He approached her and told her that he wanted her to have sex with this guy for money. Tonya felt very uncomfortable and she kept saying no, but he kept telling her, “if you love me you’ll do this”. After nearly 30 more minutes of constant pressure, Tonya agreed to have sex with the man. What Tonya thought was a one-time thing became an everyday routine for the next few weeks. Night after night and bar after bar, Tonya would go out with Eddie while he advertised her to potential men. Tonya thought she loved him. She thought she could deal with how physically fatigued this made her. Eventually help came for Tonya in the form of U.S. Immigration and after nearly six years of suffering it was finally all over.
In conclusion sex trafficking is a huge issue all over the world but there is a way that you can help, you can become part of the movement to stop human trafficking, you can make a worthy donation to the A21 foundation which helps free innocent women from slavery and helps get their lives back on track or you could just devote five minutes of your time to talk to someone and educate them about trafficking and the dangers that come with it.
