African Americans had to face a lot of adversity, even after the emancipation proclamation, Africans Americans were mistreated in a lot of places or even violently handled by who other than the white man. And in the southern states it's even more detrimental to the blacks, especially in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. King some would say was an immaculate civil rights leader in which many had followed through his activist movements, and one of his famous letters occurred during the Birmingham campaign when he was in jail, he wrote to his fellow clergymen in his own thoughts about the time/adversity they were going through. Dr. King always hoped in the future that as a nation we would be united together as one and prejudice would disappear and sadly I can’t say that all is true.

African Americans before/preceding the events of Birmingham were mistreated everywhere in the south, and they went through a series of laws called the “Jim Crow Laws” in which Blacks and Whites were all segregated in all aspects of life from separated bathrooms, stores, even though the political system. Everything was set up in a way against them where they would always be lesser than the white man and never equal whether it’d be political power, court, education, etc. So basically they were handicapped. But after the events of Birmingham, tensions started to drop very slowly, but they were still there. Schools were slowly being de-segregated, business centers were doing the same thing, committees were being made with whites and black, and it was all a process though and never easy for big change.

I think Dr. King’s great work, which is “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, was composed in order to draw in people’s attention to the greatest issue in Birmingham and within the whole United States at that time where segregation was at its highest peak. The concept of the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” was comprised within the discussion of the Black community challenged in Birmingham. With the key objective to reach the justice everyone so preach and to secure the proper for equality, The thesis, which is found within the second and third paragraphs, states that in spite of the fact that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. isn't from Birmingham, he must be there because of the numerous things whites do toward Blacks is just injustice to all. By helping the people of Birmingham he had helped many individuals from all over since 'injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere'. Dr. King's thesis clarifies the reason for his association within the non-violent direct-action demonstrations. The thesis had given a really good reason for the African Americans wanting to have equal rights. One way that Dr. King bolsters his thesis is by utilizing appeals to emotion. Within the 'Letter From Birmingham Jail' Dr. King had written of all the awful things that the whites have done to the African Americans. He moreover talks almost how intense it is on children to learn the discriminations everyday African Americans go through.

Dr. King had announced this ‘we were victims of a broken promise’ to show that in any case of the agreement they had made prior on to remove any signs of racial discrimination, the rest were not concerned separated from his assembly. “Our hopes had been blasted and the shadow of deep disappointment settled upon us”. This would show that Dr. King would recognize the faults and would wish not to blame anyone else. The phrase “that will help men rise from the dark depths of prejudice and racism to the majestic heights of understanding and brotherhood” was supposed to mean to unite all individuals within the battle against prejudice.

I’d say the race relations we have as a nation is still at a stalemate today as of 2019. We all have our likes/dislikes and interests as human beings and we always associate that with people in our interest. Because of that there are a lot of divisions in the United States, we got Donald Trump hating on illegal immigrants who just want to come to this country for a second chance and that caused controversy, everyone else will think white people will always remain on top of society, while everyone else will always be undermine them, Asians, blacks, Latinos, etc. None of the race relations is detrimental in a way but I feel everyone does go through a type of racial discrimination.
