The Role of Moral and Ethics in Our Lives: Why It Matters

When writing a moral and ethics essay, it is important to consider the various aspects in which good moral values play a crucial role, including social, economic, and career aspects. Additionally, one must also consider the responsibility we have for our actions and the consequences they may have on ourselves and others. Ultimately, the decision to follow good moral values lies with us and the choices we make, and it is essential to practice these values consistently in order to become a morally good person.

Who should have good morals?

In my opinion, every each of us need to have good moral but it does not mean that they need to be applied in all times, places, and situations. This mean that if something bizzare happen in our lifetime, this kind of moral maybe could help us to think wisely before taking an action. Also, there are certain parties that are obligated to perform certain moral responsibilities. At this moment, morality is the best system that can help us to tell right from wrong and good from bad. Moral and ethics can give real and practical guidance to our lives and most importantly it guide us along a pathway to deal more effectively with moral dilemmas by eliminating those behaviors that does not conform to our sense of right and wrong. there are times when we need to consider the other aspect

From a social aspect, morality is important for the whole society. According to Aristotle in his book Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics (2004), ed. Hugh Treddenick. London: Penguin, he believed that happiness is the quality of whole human life. It need the value of respect and understanding people in order someone to become happy. It may be that understanding someone is more complex as it affected by a wider variety of personality, behavioral or relational qualities. This kind of moral should be nurtured at all ages especially children as all over those behavior that could be experienced by somebody, it should be came from their family. A simple example about smoking. The smoke can disturb the people around you and can harm them. Although no laws regulate this but you must be considerate especially when you are in public and try to put yourself in their shoes so that you can understand them.

In the economic aspect, we know that at some level, the concern that economics may overstep its bounds. Yes it is well founded but in the other view, they give a lot of profits and benefits to the certain country. At this time, everyone should accept it by considering it as an income to the country as it provides more pros than cons.

In career life, as stated above there are certain parties that are obligated to perform certain moral responsibilities. In the lawyer profession, is honesty a needed virtue among lawyers? According to Homer Greene in his journal article, Can Lawyers Be Honest? He said that no lawyer will admit that he is dishonest. Very few will charge themselves, even in the privacy of their own thoughts, with moral impropriety in practice. They are ready to justify themselves in any course they may take, and what they do they do, as a rule with unburdened consciences. It is their responsibility to defend their clients according to certain procedures or laws.

Who determines that we should follow good morals?

In my opinion, we are the ones that determines ourselves to follow good morals. It depends on what culture and what environment that we are in. Max Hocutt, professor of philosophy at the University of Alabama says “The fundamental question of ethics is, who makes the rule? God or men? The theistic answer is that God makes them. The humanistic answer is that men make them. This distinction between theism and humanism is the fundamental division in moral theory.” On my point of view, when morals and ethics are determined by men, the one who makes the decision is us. It is all about the choices that we make. We will constantly face choices that affect the quality of our lives. We need to be aware that the choices that we make have consequences, both for ourselves and others. As an example, in some cultures, it is customary for business partners and customers to be invited to weddings, with the expectation that guests will give a cash gift to the bride and groom. We should be aware of the responsibility we have for our actions as the company might consider the gift an ethical bribe in exchange for the customer’s business although it may be essential to enter a new market. So it is us to decide and think whether it is a good moral to be followed.

Do we have to practice all the values to be morally good?

In order to be a morally good person of course we need to practice all the good values. This is because good values play an important role in making people understand that whether their actions are right or wrong. Good moral comes from good actions. Firstly, I believe that parents should take part in enhancing good morality in their family. According to Katty Slattengren, M. Ed., Priceless Parenting, teaching your kids moral values is one of the most important responsibilities you have as a parent. In order for your children to act morally, they need to know the good, care about the good, and practice doing the good. Hence, parents are the teacher who is the one to educate their family, especially their children in becoming a person with good moral. It takes time but yet it will be useful to deal with the roller coaster of life. Without practice and exposure with good morals, you will be awkward performing a good action and sometimes some people will feel that it is wasting their time.
