Mel just opened a new business. Therefore, the store needs different activities that will make it a long-term success. There is a highly significant role in planning, organizing leading and controlling. After the opening, Mel has to plan for the suppliers on how and when they will get the inventory. Before that, they have to prepare and plan on how many employees they will need and what will be their salaries. Also, they need to plan for the schedule of the store, what time they will be open and what will be the working hours for the staff. Once they have planned all these activities, he needs to train his employees to achieve the business goals. After planning, he needs to organize the method through which the preparation will be implemented. However, the leading will also take place when the business process starts to run, and he has to lead the employees and make sure that everything is working as per the requirement. Mel needs to control the expense and other waste activities that will cause the loss for the business in the future.
For planning, organizing, leading and controlling, Mel will need the managerial as well as clerical skills. These skills are required at every level of management. The planning takes place the top managerial level where managers and directors make the policies and plan the strategies of the business. Organizing takes place at the lower level where the workers organized the things and do it in a way as described in the planning. Leading is another skill of top-level managers and line managers who direct the employees in the right direction. Their experienced and abilities that make them a leader, and they guide the workers on how to achieve the business goals. For the controlling, Mel needs leadership skills because leaders can control and achieve the desired goals for the business. Therefore, Mel should acquire leadership skills to manage the company he opened. If Mel has all these skills, he can plan, organize, lead and manage the company well.
There are different roles defined by the Mintzberg in their book. One of them is an entrepreneur that applies to Mel. He is an entrepreneur because of the qualities that he possessed. He has the initiative quality through which he started his business and took the initiative. Another quality is leadership because Mel will plan and lead the employees who will assist him to run the business. Apart from that the entrepreneurs also take the challenges that Mel will also face at the start of his company.
