Leaders from different organizations have the same responsibilities in their respective organizations. However, every leader portrays a different leadership style. During my career, I have come across various leaders in the various organization, but there is one particular leader from the recent organization I was working for who I found different from others. He used to decide on the goals that organization was to achieve, giving his own ideas and policies without incorporating the ideas of the subordinates. Moreover, his rules were always clearly outlined and effectively communicated. He usually coordinated all the activities and operations of the organization. He portrayed the authoritative leadership style.
I believe that I possess a vital leadership style that is the democratic leadership style. This is because leaders who involve their subordinates in the decision making of the policies or organization goals usually motivate them in one way or another and the employees feel recognized and appreciated. According to (Marquis & Huston, 2017) the participation of employees in the organization activities and the process is very essential because there is always a development of new ideas that can bring change to the organization. In my opinion, organizations that encourage the authoritative leadership style usually discourages creativity and this may hold them behind in terms of development. However, I am pleased with how the authoritative leaders clearly define and communicates their rules and goals. This gives a clear direction for the subordinates since they know what and when to do it. This is a characteristic that every leader including me should integrate to ensure that the operations and activities of the organization run smoothly and effectively.
It is evident that subordinates that work under authoritative leadership style are usually under pressure and stressful environment. I believe that authoritative leadership healthcare setting and in patients outcomes have some effects that might be negative or positive. The nurse is usually imposed with fear of failure and thus they are afraid of punishments that arise from mistakes that they may make during delivery of services. This gives a positive effect on the patient outcome because they always receive the intended effective and high-quality services from the Medical personnel in health care. However, the stresses experienced by nurses and other medical professional may lead to depression and anxiety and thus they may be confused when prescribing medications to the patients this keeping the patient lives at risk.
However, the clearly defined goals of the healthcare setting and the duties of nurses and other medical personnel enable them to take proper health care to the patients and even to make a follow-up of the outpatient this giving positive outcome of the patient. Consequently, the act of the nurses and other subordinate not participating in goals setting or their ideas not being incorporated can also affect the health care setting and patients outcome in one way or another (Azaare, Gros, 2011). The nurse leader may probably not have the full information on the decision he or she may want to make and may also run short of ideas. He or she may end up making least effective or even wrong decisions that can affect the health of a patient which he could have prevented if he had involved the subordinates.
