Among several articles I read about companies with the best training programs, some characteristics were a common theme among them. Having the leaders of your company keep an eye and encourage great training programs influences a positive response on employees. This positive response from employees provides better results in the effectiveness of a training program, that enhances an employee’s ability to be productive.
Effectively managing a training program is one of, if not the most important aspect of characteristics of training practices. The training coordinator or program manager of a training program must be the leader of the training program. They should be invested in developing the employee’s skill set to help them reach their full potential. The project manager of training programs must be patient and motivated to develop an employee. They should motivate employees to be actively involved and take interest in a training program to be better prepared for success. Marketing a training practice to an employee should be a crucial factor for a manager to make that program more desirable to an employee.
Showing an employee why they are learning a certain skill is also a very important characteristic in keeping an employee interested in training. Employees often question themselves about why they are involved in a program or how it correlates to their current position. Listing out a set of objectives and how it involves their current position eliminates this question. Informing employees about the reasoning behind their training before they even start a training program would be the most ideal to keep that employee interested. Interest in their training ultimately leads to more effective training.
Great training programs should have a high degree of involvement for everyone participating Group activities and games help keep participants interested in training. These activities also generate creativity in employees that helps them stay focused on their training. Having employees actively practice what they learn reinforces what they learn. Reinforcing what employees have learned in a practice session helps their long-term memory keep what they just learned. Involvement helps employees have a little fun within sessions which keeps it interesting for everyone participating in training. These characteristics among training programs will ultimately create a higher sense of achievement in what employees learn and the overall success of the training program itself.
