One of the longest living sports in world history is starting to fade in the public eye because of low demand and little to none boxing gym. I understand that people are drawn away because lack of knowledge of where to practice or workout at, I was the same too. I was 14 years-old when I was introduced to boxing by my dad, I thought it was a pointless, violent sport and wasn’t interested in it. I soon grow love for the sport not because the content of it but the all the hard workouts and cardio training underneath the flash and thrilled of this sport. I play when I was 16 years-old just for the experience and I remember a kid always complaining about boxing and said it was a dead-end sport that nobody watched. I thought the same thing until I start traveling and realize it is still popular in a few cities like Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Detroit.

Boxing can be sum up as two people reacting to each other to land clean hits to the head or mid abdominal areas, hits that land below the waist or neck area is consider foul play and will lead you to deduction of points or disqualification. You can only use only your first through the match and hitting your opponent with your head, elbow, knee, or feet will also lead to disqualification and ultimately get you band from any league. There can be 3 to 12 timed rounds depending on the officials or league rules. The gear is any kind of shorts, boxing or practice shoes, boxing gloves, hand tape (optional or mandatory in some league), and mouth piece (optional). Most leagues must have a medical staff just in case someone received an injury. Last, boxing ring must be up to date, not broken or missing parts. I enjoy playing the sport because conditioning I gain from it and watching the sport because the technique behind it. I suggest you should give boxing try ether to conditioning for a good work out or watching the sport from a entertaining point of view, once you learn the small stuff about this sport you will enjoy it, either as a fan or an athletic

The most common excuse I hear from people that there’re no gyms that have boxing rings or equipment, and I have to say that is almost true. I did have trouble finding gyms that have a full boxing ring but if you don’t need a ring if you going to practice and condition. I went to multiply of gyms that have practice glove and protective head gear. Gold’s Gym and L.A. Fitness is the main gym I would suggest to go for conditioning with the gloves or practice section with a trainer. I suggest boxing for as good conditioning exercise because how active your body is during the exercise. Practicing on a punching bag with timed continues flowed punches are great for speed, conditioning, and endurance. I still use this type of training till this day just to stay fit.

Boxing can be expensive but there are ways to enjoy the sport without spending all your money. Gym memberships to well known gyms can be pricey but worth it. L.A Fitness and Gold’s Gym are the gyms I would suggest because you will save some money. When you get a membership you don’t need to get expensive boxing glove because they have them. You thinking about getting a trainer don’t worry about it because both gyms have personal trainer to help you. Watching the sport is very expensive but there is a way you can be an spectator while paying little to nothing. I would suggest going to any sport bar because if it’s a anticipated fight than it will be shown there plus you might people that is a fan of the sport or make new friends.
