Did you know? The word Aum is not associated to any religion. However, it can be said that the knowledge attained through a Guru is unmatchable when compared to any online or offline resources without any second thoughts. Even the content you are reading is based on few online and offline resources which may or may not be cent percent correct. To know more you have to be patient and search. Happy Chanting. Now you might be thinking “where do I get these phrases/Mantras from” well there are enough online and offline resources on this matter. But, if you want to understand how Mantras work on a complete scale then you have to start searching for a Guru, who would tell you about the practices and other details.
The task of finding a Guru is tedious especially for Non-Indians but even then there are few books (The Science Of Mantras by Om Swami) written by Swamis/Sadaks about their journey of getting into mantra sadhanas whom you can find and email them if needed. The respective person who wishes to chant Mantra has to maintain his/her hygiene during the practice. The person has to restrict himself/herself from having non-vegetarian food during the practice period. These are only a few and the most important of them. So it’s known that when people chant these Mantras regularly their pronunciation of these words attracts positivity towards the chanter which is known to be having tremendous power. Now after knowing the power of practicing Mantras everyone wants to give it a try (I did) but, there are certain rules or (not literally) laws which are to be followed while practicing Mantras. Just to state few: Now, what exactly does Mantra mean? A set of words which has different sounds when spelled is grouped together to form a phrase when such phrases are pronounced while maintaining certain breathing technique is known as a Mantra. The history of mantra goes long back as when Lord Shiva does his unique dance also known as “Shiva Thandavam”. During this he carries his “Trishul” which has a drum kind of instrument called “Damarukam” which creates certain unique sounds which are echoed around the universe(s). These sounds were heard by Shiva’s pupils or worshippers who dedicated their entire life to Lord Shiva. These pupils recognized these sounds to be very auspicious and they scripted phrases consisting of these sounds when spelled.
Tale of Mantra
The mantra is also (but not the same) known as Chanting which means to spell a word or a phrase repeatedly a numerous number of times with concentration and faith. You might have heard people chanting OM or AUM sounds while meditating, they do this to get their mental concentration into a single focal point which calms down and stabilizes their body posture and breathing activity steadily.
