Students need to understand that coming into class late can have consequences on their grade. Using items like Do Now’s and On Time Quizzes can have a huge impact. Teachers control when class starts and how it begins. Make sure that teachers are prepared to begin class right on time. Teachers can take care of attendance and other housekeeping tasks after the students are busy working on this. Therefore, decide what method you wish to you use and get started right away.

Another way to reduce tardiness is to use a reward system. Provide students with rewards for not being tardy to your class. Many teachers want to find ways that they can motivate students to learn and reward superior student effort and achievement. However, it can also expand to more rewards such as homework passes, extra credit. The benefit of this is that students who are following the reward, hopefully reinforcing their positive behavior. Lastly keep using detentions. Detentions could be added to your classroom management plans. You have to stay in your classroom during the detention time.
