The tortures of Garcin, Inez, and Estelle each other. After being escorted to the room by the valet, they all remark on where the torturer. Garcin asks the valet where the torturer is and the valet states that there is none. Inez makes a similar remark when she arrives at the room. Inez at first thinks Garcin is the torturer then realizes he is not the torturer. As time passes on they start to get more irritable towards each other and physcologically torture each other with questions and remarks. This sort of love triangle forms where Estelle is desperately trying to get Garcin to pay attention to her. Inez wants to Estelle to pay attention to ther and to ignore Garcin. Garcin wants nothing to do with either of them at the beginning; however, near the end of the story he starts to want Inez’s validation and starts fighting with her for it and trying to push away Estelle. Garcin is is ni hell for treating his wife very poorly their marriage. Such as engaging in adultery with little to no shame almost right in front of his wife. Estelle murdered her newborn baby she conceived the baby through infidelity. Estelle went to a cliff and dropped the baby to get rid of it and the baby’s father committed suicide shortly after. Inez ran away with a the bride of her cousin and shortly after the woman used ags to kill them both.

Sartre’s vision of hell is different from the average person. Instead of being underneath the earth and having demons with staffs poke at the slaves, while fires are burning in the background.Sartre’s hell is just a hotel room that you must live inhabit with other people. There is no exiting the room once you have entered. Also the bell located in the room is to just give a false sense of freedom. My concept of hell would be similar since my version is just being trapped in a completely pitch black room with no escape and no foreign interaction. It would just be you and your thoughts for the rest of eternity. After a while you would go mad; however, there would be no escape from this hell.

The concept of angst or anxiety according to Sartre is the human mind understanding the great deal of responsibility that we as humans possess to strive to be the best since we represent humankind. Forlornness would similar to depression or a constant state of sadness with. Instead of monotone being your base of emotion, sadness would be your base that you would experience everyday. Despair would be similar to forlornness; however, it is a complete loss of hope. Each character has one of these states of being. Garcin feels forlornness since he feels wrong for he treated his wife during his lifetime. He also feels embarrassed since his coworkers are dragging his name through the mud and constantly calling him a coward since he fled to Mexico. Estelle feels anxious since she is in a place where is not interesting to anyone. She can not receive the attention she wants and practically begs Garcin to pay attention to her so that she can stop being anxious. This wanting of attention led to her infidelity during her lifetime. Inez feels despair and shows it near the end of the book. When Garcin tries to leave the room, Inez tells him there is no point since there is no escape from their hell. Inez has lost all hope of escaping that hell.
