It all started in 2003 when Jaden made his debut as an actor on TV in a TV show called All of Us. This show was an American sitcom created by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith regarding a special insight towards a merged family where a father is responsible for two opposite sons. However, Jaden Smith started making a name for himself in 2006 with his debut role alongside his father in The Pursuit of Happiness. The movie is based on a true story that primarily focuses on a father called Christopher Gardener (Will Smith) that involuntarily enters various hardships. Following this, he is set up on a challenging path that requires Will to choose the most beneficial choices for both himself and his young son, named after him, Christopher (Jaden Smith). Jaden was only 8 years old and was already nominated a Breakthrough Performance at the MTV awards a year later.
Additionally, The New York Times were extremely impressed with Jaden’s performance and even called him ‘likeable in the extreme’. Skipping a few years of various rehearsals for upcoming movies, in 2008 Smith had a guest starring part in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody which was a popular American sitcom on the Disney Channel. After this short-lived humorous guest appearance where Jaden helps Zach and Cody impress their dates, Smith entered a significantly more serious role alongside Keanu Reeves. The film was a remake of 1951’s The Day The Earth Stood Still regarding the genre of science fiction. In 2008, Jaden featured as Helen Benson’s (Jennifer Connelly) son Jacob Benson and was a part of figuring out the mysterious visit from an outsider inside the realms of planet Earth. This performance saw Jaden grasp yet another award under the descriptions of a Saturn award regarding the fields of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, as Best Performance by a Young Actor.
With this touching acting performance, it wasn’t until 2010 where Jaden took his acting skills to a different level and initiated a powerful representation of the remake of 1984’s The Karate Kid. Jaden Smith was aged 10 at this particular time and earned an astonishing $2 million. It was a major success that saw it bring home 5 awards and earning 12 nominations. Jaden was nominated as the Best Actor by Black Reel and Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture by Image Awards. Besides these impressive nominations at such a young age, the most notable was presented by Young Artist Awards as the Best Performance in a Feature Film - Leading Young Actor.
