An American writer and lecturer, and the developer Dale Carnegie (1988) stated that “Do the thing you fear to do and keep on doing it. That is the quickest and surest way ever yet discovered to conquer fear.” Every people has their own fears. The most common that people fears is the fear of future, social phobia and loss of autonomy. But as like Dale Carnegie quote, people must keep doing that people fears to conquer the fears. According to philosopher Karl Albrecht (2012), if people can treat the fear that people feel with our emotions and information, people can handle it rationally. And when people analyze the causes of our fears more clearly and calmly, people can prevent them from terrorizing and manipulating. This essay aims the three common fears and the way to overcome them.
Firstly, people fears about their future life. People feel fear of each other in many ways, mostly about career paths, relationships between people, and their death, the end of the future. Think about it, what people most afraid of. If someone is a student, probably afraid of his or her grades, if someone is a young man, afraid he or she won't get a job, parents are afraid won't be able to feed their family, and the elderly are afraid of dying soon. However, the way to defeat this fear is to confront it and do what you're afraid of. Fear is usually something that grows in our hearts, and the more we avoid facing it, the greater it becomes. (Coleman, 2018) So if young people afraid of not getting a job in the future, facing the concern and really struggle to get a job, and then they will going to lose their fear and they could get jobs.
Secondly, people fears about social phobia which could be fear of public speech and social relationship. People can have social phobia, both innate and acquired. Since, humans live in society, if they are afraid of society, they will never succeed in this world. So this fear has to be overcome, and the best way to overcome it is to do so. If someone afraid to speak in front of an audience, he or she can master that fear by practicing speaking in front of your family, in front of your friends, and gradually expanding your society. Social relationships, too, will be able to reach out to the people around you first to have confidence, so that you can expand your society and talk confidently about who you're meeting at any time, and assert your opinion.
Lastly, Every people fears about a loss of Autonomy. Fear of being unable to move, paralyzed, confined, trapped, or buried by an environment. It's commonly known as 'claustrophobia' on a physical level, and it's possible in social relationships. The author also has this claustrophobia, which is really a weakness and a fear. But also, try to face it and not be afraid, then everyone can conquer it.
In conclusion, the common thing to overcome the three fears that people mostly have; fear of future, social phobia and object phobia is facing the fears. It is necessary to face fear more and more. The exposure will create a new form of inference, which consists of creating new and safe memories of their fears. Over time, the brain learns that such situations do not always need to warn you to 'escape' to survive. Slowly, automatic thinking changes, more calm feelings and behavior. This type of treatment is called cognitive behavioral therapy. Therefore, every time, whenever anyone who face on the fears, must face it not escape and avoid to overcome and quality of their life.
